Hello:
I am about to schedule my first and hopefully, last OPI test in Spanish. Can anyone share any advcie or reources in getting ready for this exam? I'm really nervous. I am aware that it will last around 30 min and it's over the phone. But how do you crank it? Thank you!

Hello,

I gave this test in November, but my language of testing was different. I would say that if you are fluent in the language you are testing in , there is no cause for concern. The interview is pretty easy as long as you are comfortable conversing about your family, academics, and some literature in the language of choice. Just relax- you'll do great!!

I took the ACTFL Oral French last summer. It was all done via telephone and the examiner was super friendly. She pretty much asked me questions in the context of a conversation about the past, present and future which give me the chance to show off my grammar. For example, she asked about my wedding (in the past), about where I'm living currently and about my neighbours, and also about what I hope to do in the future or places I would like to visit, etc.

My advice would be to just try to have as conversation as you can to get really comfortable speaking.

Hope this helps. Best of luck!!

Hey guys, I just noticed this thread and this is the first time I've seen anything like this... I speak Urdu, and I was thinking about meeting a college requirement through this. Is it just for teachers, or is it okay for students as well. I would appreciate any help from you guys... also, how do I go about taking this exam... what's the process...? Thanks in advance!

Hi!

No, I haven't seen that this is limited to teachers.

I don't know if you have seen this very informative thread already:

Some information about ACTFL is toward the bottom.

I think it is really neat that it is possible to get credit for so many languages!

I'm waiting to confirm at my university that this exam is accepted because it is just an oral proficiency exam... Wish me luck. Language Testing International - Certified ACTFL Test - 60+ languages - Corporate, Government & Academic language proficiency testing doesn't show the cost of the exam... at least I haven't noticed it.

The link I provided is recent and says $150 for the exam. That is a great price for 6 lower and 6 upper level credits.

I hope this works out for you!

Yea... it sounds great... I haven't found out for sure from my school yet though. They told me for the Spanish CLEP, they don't give any credit, but they waive the foreign language requirement, which is fine with me; only problem is that I am not a Spanish speaker, although I have taken 3 classes of it back in H.S., but that was years ago; I actually speak the language (Urdu) that I want to take for this exam. I am waiting on a response from them about this exam... I sent that link to the academic department, but I guess i'll have to wait till Monday for a response... if they take it, $150 is still WAYYY lower than what I would have to pay to take this course at the university.
I guess just wish me luck guys... I'll keep you updated on what happens.
