Am. Lit this Saturday... - DanaN - 03-10-2009 Okay so I have been studying for a long time for this test. I took the Peterson's and got a 57. Do you think I should put off the test or do you think I am ready? I don't feel confident with a 57 but people say Peterson's is harder than the real CLEP. Any advice?? Am. Lit this Saturday... - flutefreak - 03-10-2009 I'm with you on this one. When I took the Am. Lit, my pract. test didn't go so well either. I spend the entire weekend studying and reviewing and got a 60-something, I can't remember it off the top of my head. The choice is up to you, but I wouldn't be afraid to hit the books hard the next couple days. It may take a lot work, but it's worth it when you get a good score. I had also read a lot of literature, which helped a lot. - Good luck on whatever you decide. I'm cheering for you either way. I've had to postpone a couple tests, and have even had to retake 2. A word of advice, if you decide to push it hard, don't be afraid to take a nap for strength. =) Am. Lit this Saturday... - DanaN - 03-10-2009 Thanks for the advice, I will definitely be taking naps. LOL. I need this test to graduate so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I am an English major but I honestly never really paid much attention to the pertinent information regarding literary periods so I am going to crunch on that more than anything. I still have to take the other two tests but I have studied them before so if all goes well I will graduate in May!! You just have to have a 50 to pass right? Or does it differ depending on your school/major/etc.? Am. Lit this Saturday... - flutefreak - 03-10-2009 I know the ACE score needed is 50, but it does depend on the school. I'd make sure you know what score you need to pass. Am. Lit this Saturday... - mlwilliamsiv - 03-10-2009 I concur with flutefreak. Make sure you know your school's policy on such matters. There would be nothing worse than scoring a 58 on an exam (which is passing by ACE's standard) and finding out you needed a 60 for credit at your institution!!! Peace be with you. From a loyal degree seeker, Marshall P.S: Be sure to let us know how you did on the exam because I need to take the CLEP American Lit as well. Good luck on the exam (even though I'm sure you won't need it!) Am. Lit this Saturday... - DanaN - 03-10-2009 Thanks, I'll email the test admin tomorrow and see what the score has to be...hopefully 50. HaHa! I just wanna graduate!!!! Am. Lit this Saturday... - rileychica - 03-10-2009 Hi I agree with Marshall & flutefreak, err on the safe side and find out from your school what the passing score is. I also wanted to let you know that I took all of the Peterson's tests and my highest score was a 59 - and I still did well on the actual CLEP ![]() I would go with your gut feeling on this one, if you don't think you are ready you probably aren't. I had the same feeling with DSST Ethics in America and had to reschedule it... but I am very glad I did. I would have never passed if I didn't. Good Luck! Am. Lit this Saturday... - DanaN - 03-11-2009 Okay so I found out I only need a 50 to pass. I studied 5 hours yesterday and I'm devoting around 4 today. Shew! Am. Lit this Saturday... - DanaN - 03-11-2009 For anyone studying for the Am. Lit as well I found a pretty decent website that can help get you started with the periods/movements. It gives info on what characterizes the movement, important authors, and historical events during the time. I hope it helps others! LITERARY PERIODS IN AMERICAN LITERATURE Am. Lit this Saturday... - DanaN - 03-14-2009 I PASSED!!! Wooot!! I just got home from the exam. I got a 64 and let me tell you I didn't think I would pass. It was actually really tough. You basically have to know EVERYTHING about american lit, the works, the authors, the periods, the characters, the themes, so on. |
