Need help choosing tests! - mphelps75 - 03-07-2009

I am a newbie here and have been lurking for over a week and this is my first posting. I am in need of 9 credits by the end of the month and I am trying to psych myself up to take these tests but I am just to scared to fail which is so unlike me. I am so intimidated that everytime I go to study I just can't get a flow which is part of the reason I joined. I have watched all of the positive reinforcement everyone has given each other and I figure this is the place I need to be if I have any hope of pulling this thing off. So far these are the tests I think I want to attempt...anyone have any feedback on how easy or hard they are? Any help is appreciated...I found the test specific forums and the tests below might be my best bet??
Thanks

Here's to your Health
Ethics in America-(although so far study has been SOOO boring)
dsst Law Enforcement
DSST Principles of Supervision

any others?? I am open for ideas I have a very short window to study!

Sorry I can't help with your test selection, but I know what it is like to be afraid of the test.

I was so afraid before I took my first one (A TECEP) I put it off for several years, I bought the books to study I took the practice test, but I just couldn't get up the nerve to "Just Do It".

Finally when I thought my son who wasn't even born when I took my last B & M course would graduate college before I did it got me moving.

Now that I have found IC things are going even better I have my AA and 82 credits toward my BA.

You can do this, don't let the fear win.

Are those the only three exams you can take or can you take any three or do you just need three that are in a specific catagory? That said........the Specific Exam board has lots of info on each test so you can see how much work it will take to prep for. Personally, any CLEP that has a REA book that gets good ratings on this board would be my first choice. All of the exams I have taken (except TECEP's) had a great REA book and I only used that and the IC cards. OH and take the Petersons practice tests to gauge how you are doing. I take them without knowing a thing, then take another one and make notes of what I do not know during the practice exam and then I take the last one once I have studied my REA, IC and the first two practice tests to see where I really am. Read the Specific exam board carefully and posters will all state if the Peterson practice exams were a good indication of being ready.

There are plenty of degree seekers here that will help you with their resources once you decide what to take. I took Foundations of Counseling without much more than a fast week if that of review and it was pretty easy but also took Substance Abuse with another rushed week of review and it was not hard but would not suggest it if you are under the gun for timing. Find three tests that overlap and life will be much easier. Is Intro to Psych, Human Growth & Dev and another psych an option?

After you decide on the big three... then there is nothing left to doing it but doing it!

Thanks for your reply. I can actually choose any 3 tests. After reading over several posts last night I have narrowed my selection down a bit more to DSST Principles of Supervsion and I was thinking of doing the CLEP Principles of Management as some have suggested I just need to make sure these are not a duplication and I will take Here's to Your Health because with my professional background I think I should be able to pass this one okay. You mentioned in your post to use a CLEP that has a REA book but can you tell me what is REA? I am studying today for Here's to your health and hope to take it by next week!

Good luck on Here's to Your Health. I took that one last year and managed to pass. There is a bit of Pych., but not enough to worry about.
