ECE Literacy Instruction In The Elem School - YokotaJo - 02-28-2009

Just because I can not stop taking exams for credit even after these next two exams will seal the deal for my TESC BA in Psychology.......I want to take this exam in preparation for my next step of a Masters in Education. The exam will not count for my Masters but I can use it for my teaching license requirements. That all said............I am having a heck of a time finding any study guide info. IC doesn't have any cards (my usual lifeline!) and I haven't found anything that looks reliable out on the web. Any suggestions on study guides or practice tests or ???? Thanks so much!

Did you find out anything on this test ?

Excelsior does offer a practice test for $65.

I ordered the ece Literacy Instruction in the Elem. School practice exams and took the first one and scored 67 out of 100.

This was without any studying of the topic.

I was wondering if anyone here used these before taking this exam and if you did, is a 67 a good score ?

I have not taken this exam yet, but it is on my horizon. I did ask and IC does not expect to add it in the near future. It will be my first ECE so I am very interested in anything you find out. I haven't updated my degree plan yet, but I am looking to add all the education exams I can find so I can look into an alternate route to a teaching certificate.

Please keep us up on how you do.

Linda,

The sample questions in the content guide seem to match in regards to content type and difficulty to the questions in the first practice test I took. Of course the practice test having 100 questions gives you a broader view and introduces other test topics.

From what I have seen, if you are planning on taking this exam, the practice tests seem like they are well worth the cost.

One other thing, in regards to the questions, careful reading of the questions helps to eliminate at least one or two of the choices, so for me if the question was one I could not answer I was able to narrow down my choices.

Also I got a 67 on my first practice exam without any practice or introduction to the terms, etc. (other then exposure from raising 3 sons) but if you have experience in a classroom you might be more familiar with terms such as K-W-L, IRI,Cloze, semantic mapping, etc.

I hope to take this exam by the end of July, I will post my score afterward.

I do not have access to this sites exam feedback section so I am posting this here:

Passed with an A, but I found the real exam tougher then the practice exams. If you want to get an A on the exam I would spring for the practice tests as they give you a good foundation and expose you to the ideas/thought process of the exam writers. Infact, this is my second ECE using their practice tests and I think I would have only scored C's without them. My stategy for ECE's is to keep going over the practice exams until I score in the 90's then I schedule my exam.

To prep for the exam I mainly used the ECE practice exams and some websites for terms:

another suggestion: have an idea about the themes of the children's literature listed in the study guide, look them up on amazon or wiki them. eg:Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Amazon.com: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry: Mildred D. Taylor: Books

hey, you guys mentioned this exam can cover some teacher's college requirements...will this only work if you study to be an elementary teacher, or can it also be applied for those studying secondary education?

You need to get Lindagerr to chime in here. I believe she has been successful with this one and can give some guidance, so let's keep this going until she is able to help.
