GRE Confusion at excelsior - caitlyn4321 - 02-23-2009

So a little background, I started testing jan 24th and am now a senior. I came in with all my electives knocked out already, so I've been testind gen ed. I'm at a point now where I'm halfway through the major credits.

So the question is, which I know no one has been given a real answer on by the advisors, what score do I need to get on the gre subject exam to knock out the two required courses that can't be tested at excelsior?

The advisors don't want to commit to anything and I was getting the impression that they'll apply the GRE by first subtracting prior coursework. There don't seem to be set scores for certain classes, they'll just duplicate anything y ou've already done. so if you already took abnormal psych, then they'll duplicate that and give you social psych instead. If you took social they'll duplicate social and give you abnormal. So if you have 15 credits, you'll have to earn that many to get any new courses, regardless what your distribution of current courses is in the major.

Who has had prior psych coursework when they took the gre and what came of it? did it just duplicate what you had until it was all duplicated before giving new classes or what? I don't mind it duplicating courses as long as it knocks out the two that I can't take, but the only thing I could get the advisors to say is "Shoot for 80%", which is no help at all since 80% of people don't get that Smile

uuummm, yes but this one goes to eleven.....

When I called about this before I took the GRE I was told that the 2 classes would be Research Methods and History and Systems. They have a class/exam for RM but not History/Systems. The lady I spoke with said most of the test scores they saw fell one or two classes short percentage wise and these were the ones they made them take. Makes some sense as they are probably the least represented on the test. I cant believe they dont have a chart or something outlining what credit is given when. My advice to do the best you can and then deal with what you dont get credit for, if any. EC offers options for all the classes except H/S I believe and I think BYU offers a distance H/S option but I am not sure.

Both myself and the other person who took the test had only Intro and of course we lost credit.

What are the classes EC doesnt offer ? I fell one short of the 30 and chose not to go with a major as you cant do anything in that field without a Masters and that course along with the major writing/paper were $$s and hassle I dont need.

I have a full set of textbooks and all the major study guides,PM if you are interested.
