Easiest DSST History test? - heathclayton - 02-17-2009

I almost done! 3 more tests! Woo Whoo!

Questions:
I need an upper level history test. I have already taken Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union. That leaves:

Modern Middle East DSST (Instacert has flash cards for it! )
Western Europe since 1945 DSST
Civil War and Reconstruction DSST
History of the Vietnam War DSST

Which one is easiest? Which one is easiest to find study materials for?

Thanks!
Heath

I'm bumping this because I have a similar question. Can someone rank these in order from hardest to easiest? Is there any overlap among any of them?

Rise & Fall of the Soviet Union (DSST)
Vietnam War (DSST)
Modern Middle East (DSST)
World Conflicts Since 1900 (Excelsior)

It can depend on your background knowledge. There is a lot of info on Wikipedia and other source (be sure to check out the specific exam feedback).
Do you specifically need UL credit, or just any history exam?

I have to take all of those. See my signature for the tests I've taken (in chronological order). It's ok if this Q can't be answered because it's too subjective; just thought I'd ask for a general estimate or any personal examples Smile I will definitely check out the specific exam feedback; thanks!

I took three of the four tests listed.
Here's how I would rank them.
Civil War and Reconstruction - The easiest because of all the material available - Even you-tube lectures - Just be sure not to miss studying Reconstruction, the test covers that.
Vietnam War - The next hardest - This test covers a 30-year period of time, however there are plenty of materials available. Study battles, generals, etc.
Modern Middle East - Hardest unless you are very familiar with the history of that region - I was a tyro, so I had to study quite a lot.
I consider Rise & Fall of the Soviet Union especially difficult because of the amount of time the test covers - However, you have already passed that, so the rest of the tests will be a piece of cake for you.
Follow your own advice - check specific feedback for study materials and study recommendations.
Good luck and keep swinging!!!

I'm interested in everyone's input too. I'm taking the 3 DSSTs mentioned, hopefully next month. *fingers crossed*

Thanks for the reply! To clarify, I haven't taken Soviet Union (:

So based on info from several sources, I think this is how I'll take them:

Middle East & Soviet Union (communism)
Civil War & Vietnam War (American history)
and then World Conflicts

I've put the 2 hardest first because I just got done with my business electives and some semi-easy tests, so I'm ready for something challenging Big Grin

Thanks again!

Westerner,
Oops! I responded to the wrong post.
Anyhow. I took all the tests you are planning on taking, even World Conflicts.
Your plan is a good one. The two hardest are definitely Modern Middle East and Soviet Union; so knock them out of the way first.
My feeling about Civil War and Vietnam are the same - definitely not easy, but entirely doable with study.
I left feedback on all the tests, especially the World Conflicts test - I used the study guides that Excelsior recommended and scored a 96 (if I remember right).
Hope this helps.

I've taken them all with the exception of world conflicts. I can add this, Vietnam and Civil war and totally be done with IC, the others need multiple resources, especially modern middle east. Overall Civil war is probably "easiest," followed by Vietnam. But as others have already said, its completely subjective.
