Going to OTS - teriyaki - 01-28-2009

I am currently an active duty member of the United States Air Force and I was just curious if anyone had any useful information on what degrees the Air Force is looking for to become an officer. I am pretty close to knocking out my CCCAF degree and I still don't have a major. My current background is in Electronics, but i would like to select a degree that would directly correlate to the officer world and would also give me the best chance of me being accepted into Officer Training School. Thank you very much for your time.

I am not the subject matter expert on this but....the Air Force is "looking" for technical degrees (i.e. Engineering, Physics, Math, Etc..). When I say "looking" that only means preferred since those degrees are thought to have a very analytical background. With that said, I would personally say that it all depends on what you job you want to do as an officer, or more importantly, what you want to do period. I am part of a flying squadron in which many of the pilots have degrees ranging from Aerospace Engineering to Spanish. Certain jobs do require certain degrees, but not all. Honestly, I would focus on the degree that you are in "love" with rather than just want the Air Force wants because your major won't make or break you. If you have degree in Astro Physics, but don't have good AFOQT scores, or bad EPR's, or not a lot community service, than the guy/girl with a degree in Basket weaving that has all of the others areas covered will get selected before you (in theory Rolleyes ) It all involves the "whole person" concept that the Air Force refers too. Before you make your decision I think you should give this site a look, OCS Foundation Portal because it has some real good information.
