Hi guys,
Thanks firstly to everyone who has been proving routes and providing feedback here on the forum.
Until recently I never thought the prospect of earning a degree would knock on my door again.As a married someone living and working full time in the UK, my situation is a bit trickier than knocking out CLEPS and DSSTs regularly as the nearest testing centre is some 400+ miles away. Therefore, getting the most college credits for time invested is important.
The FEMAs are not suitable as I am a British citizen and without a US social security number. I have contacted ACE and am in the process of setting up an account having had confirmed this ought to be possible without a social security number by registering as an international student with them. I have also contacted FHSU and Grand Canyon University with respect to application and acquiring credit through Straighterline and currently awaiting feedback.
Focusing on ALEKS, my query is about maximing college credit for the nine maths courses. I am not enrolled at any of the 'big three', yet.
Through Excelsior and in line with their policy, I believe it may be possible to acquire 15 credits through ACE and ALEKS, in addition to 6 credits for the general CLEP, 'College Mathematics' and 3/4 credits for CLEP/Uexcel 'Calculus'.
Maths (6 credits)
- College Algebra (ALEK-0003)
- PreCalculus (ALEK-0005)
Stats (9 credits)
- Intro to Stats (ALEK-0007)
- Business Stats (ALEK-0008)
- Stats for Behavioural Science (ALEK-0009)
Potential total math/stats credits: 24/25
The policy stated in the 'School of Liberal Arts Catelog' for Excelsior is:
"Mathematics Restriction
Arithmetic courses and courses that have been designated as developmental or remedial may not be used toward your degree. No more than three courses on the semester-hour system (or four courses on the quarter-hour system) of mathematics credit below the level of calculus may be applied to any degree. Representative titles of math courses below the level of calculus include College Math, College Algebra, Elementary Functions, Modern Math, Fundamentals of Algebra, Trigonometry, and Precalculus."
Question 1: Do these stats courses duplicate each other in terms of cancelling out each other's credit in general?
Question 2: What are COSC and TESCs policies for credit duplication with respect to all nine courses with ALEKS? Do any of the 'big three' accept all nine of the ALEKS courses for maximum credit?
Right now credit maximisation for ALEKS and Straighterline is so important. I have been devouring the information on this forum for a while and the developments in recent months have been excellent. So, with regards to Straighterline:
Question 3: Straighterline 'College Algebra' and 'Accounting I' are accepted by TESC through FHSU, recently Economics, too. Has anyone had experience sending transcripts of these and other courses to the 'big three' through Grand Canyon University? (Noting COSC has set policies, here)
