US History II - My head is going to explode! - thatbrian - 11-07-2008

I'm trying to study for US History II CLEP and I just can't seem to take it all in - TOO MUCH INFORMATION! I've gone through the IC flashcards but can't seem to retain this stuff. I'm having a hard time with this one and could use a little help/encouragement. I might just be suffering from a bit of burn out at this point because I'm losing motivation too.

I'm in the same mental space. After gaininig over 60 college hours in less than a year, I have made it to my final CLEP exam (College MathSad ). The problem is, no matter how much I study the stuff, or go through the flashcards, it is like I am looking at new material. I know I have kinda "hit the wall" and hope that I retain enough for a pass on Monday.

Keep plugging away and I'm sure you'll pull it out.

Brian,

I just passed this exam not to long ago with a 59. I am 41 and have been out of the game along time also but the test wasn't to bad. The vast majority of my questions were from before WW2 though so make sure you go over that stuff. I had 2 Vietnam Questions and I was ready for them. I may have had 1 Reagan questin but I do not remember anything newer than that.

Good luck, you can do it!!

Doug

My version of the test was extremly "politically correct" with a lot civil rights questions on feminism, Jim Crow, and the civil rights laws that wer enacted under Lyndon Johnson. Go pass it on Monday!

Hi Brian,

You may have already seen this, but here's the link to some videos for U.S. History.Resource: A Biography of America
Sometimes the IC flashcards for history don't follow a linear order, so I found that watching the videos (or reading Wikipedia) helped me grasp the "big picture", and made it easier for me to absorb the info on the flashcards.

It's totally normal to feel some burnout, especially working as hard as you have. You went from 0 to 63 credits in about six months. That breaks down to about 3 credits per week! That's amazing! So don't let a little U.S. History get you down- it's got nothing on you.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. I read the REA book today and feel a lot better about things. For me IC is better for review than as a sole source of study. Took the first REA practice test today and scored a 64 so I should be OK on Friday (hopefully).

Thanks again!

Brian
