Comments on the video make it clear that this is a cost saving measure. The company decided to use older cucumbers, hence the need for additional preservatives.
Given all the shrinkflation, pathogen outbreaks, lack of accountability, and reduction in quality across the board, it seems clear that companies feel able to treat consumers as nothing more than cattle.
