University of Wisconsin Flex BSIST - spacecadet17 - 09-12-2026

Hello everyone, I’m looking for information regarding the Information Science and Technology program through UW Flex (University of Wisconsin Milwaukee). I’ve heard varying things about the program, and my main interest is a reputable online degree that fits my learning style and could potentially be finished before my federal aid runs out. I saw an extremely helpful post in another thread where a user details her experience in the UW Parkside BSBA program, and was hoping someone could detail what I’m getting into with the BSIST program. I completed the admissions process and had a credit evaluation, and the courses I would need to take at UWM are as follows:

[*]INFOST 110: Introduction to Information Science and Technology
[*]INFOST 240: Web Design I
[*]INFOST 290: Project Teams, Leadership, and Communication
[*]INFOST 350: Introduction to Application Development
[*]INFOST 310: Human Factors in Information Seeking and Use
[*]INFOST 410: Database Information Retrieval Systems
[*]INFOST 440: Web Application Development
[*]INFOST 340: Introduction to Systems Analysis
[*]INFOST 315: Knowledge Organization for Information Science and Technology
[*]INFOST 490: Senior Capstone

along with 2 major electives, 2 math classes, an English class, a Humanities, and a Civics and Perspectives course. Totaling approximately 53 credits.

I would greatly appreciate any insight to the workload, the assignment structure, the assignments themselves in the above classes, and any advice or information whatsoever would be helpful. Haven’t found much online about the BSIST program.

I completed the Health Sciences program, but briefly added the Health Care Informatics certificate earlier this year before deciding to only focus on the bachelor's. During that time, I began INFOST 110. Please find the syllabus attached.

The course was divided into 4 competencies with multiple writing assignments each. I just pulled up one of my short essays that I completed for Competency 1, which is about 300 words in length.

Before each assignment, you get a page full of resources such as course videos. In a previous UW Flex thread, I talked about how I didn't like the way UWM Health Science courses are organized. INFOST 110X is different, providing you a much better variety of resources & breaking the assignments into small, digestible pieces. I can't speak for the BSIST program as a whole, but my impression is that it's a better-organized program.
