Should colleges do more to provide value to students?

I think it's important to distinguish between education and vocational training

Often degree paths are simply courses toward entering a vocation.

I believe for political reasons there has been an active long-term campaign to erode confidence in higher education and public education by some deep pocketed backers. That being said, many organizations in high education havenot exactly done themselves a lot of favors in countering narratives to erode degree value. They've been very slow to understand and react to changing needs of students. They've done very little to counter the vast increases in costs and the rise in student debt.
