Any Inherent Drawbacks of UoPeople over Big 3? - sal1820 - 06-24-2026 I feel some folks on these forums consider the Big Three and brick and mortar campuses with generous online offerings as more respectable than UoPeople. I could be just me since UoPeople got its regional accreditation less than two years ago. But are there any inherent drawbacks to studying at UoPeople over the other online university generally recommended for transferring to? I know it's not yet listed on Anabin, so if you want to study in Germany then you will need to get a ZAB equivalence. Are there any other such drawbacks or complications of getting a degree from UoPeople. RE: Any Inherent Drawbacks of UoPeople over Big 3? - SteveFoerster - 06-24-2026 For most people, I don't see why University of the People would be any less serviceable than any other non-prestigious school, and I'm including my alma mater in that. RE: Any Inherent Drawbacks of UoPeople over Big 3? - Tomas - 06-24-2026 it was relisted recently, but with H +/- status it is less flexible than some: cannot be done as fast as WGU or UMPI and there is a mandatory path of classes to follow in order RE: Any Inherent Drawbacks of UoPeople over Big 3? - ss20ts - 06-24-2026 The name is a turnoff to many people. It's not a state university which is important to some people. Some people want an online program at a college with a physical campus so it's not obvious that they completed their degree online due to biases some people still have against online education. Steve’s concentration in Information Systems and mine in Communication were concentrations within Charter Oak’s General Studies major. At 36 credits or more, these concentrations were functional equivalents of a major. They got rid of both concentrations, and almost all concentrations within the General Studies major. Now they’re down to two such: Individualized Studies or Judaic Studies. Several of the old concentrations were replaced directly or approximately by official majors. Charter Oak offers majors now include Software Development, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, and Health Information Management. Peer grading is a mixed bag, there’s no real support, and the fees are more than it’s worth. Some of that may have changed. It was 2021-22 that I tried them out. RE: Any Inherent Drawbacks of UoPeople over Big 3? - TINASAM - 06-24-2026 There is no peer grading any longer. That went out with this term and the switch to Brightspace over Moodle. I know there were a lot of complaints about that. |
