New MS in Applied AI from Eastern Univ for $9,900 - mcjon77 - 09-13-2025

Eastern University has just announced a new MS in applied artificial intelligence for only $9,900.  Thttps://www.eastern.edu/academics/graduate-programs/ms-applied-ai

As I mentioned on the sister forum, this program has about a 50% overlap with the coursework from my MS in Data Science from Eastern back in 2021.

That's a very nice program for someone looking to enter that arena... AI's a hot topic or subject matter now!

It can get exhausting to shake every hand and kiss every baby, but someone’s got to be Mayor of DegreeForum, and we’re lucky to have BJ.

Hear, hear! Bryan and Jonathan are the teamwork that makes the dream work! Thank you, and many thanks to all the mods!

There was no traction on the sister board, so I copy/pasted my text above... I wonder if it gets noticed differently.

I'll be getting this degree in the Advanced Standing while I wait for the PhD and may make a master post on my experience or just update here after each course is done. Enrollment process has been less than stellar (transfer credit process and overall enrollment is slow 3+ weeks). At one point the enrollment counselor forget to send my two courses from another university for credit. They are also very hands off with personally speaking with you and working with you. That doesn't matter to me since this isn't my first rodeo but those wanting hands on registration or it's their first program and so on may mind. The orientation video and documents could use some updates since it's only about Data Science but the overall gist on what to expect and do.

My first two courses start Monday: DTSC-545 Intro to Prompt Engineering and DTSC-620 Cloud Foundations. Courses are all laid out to you with every syllabus and work required so you can plan accordingly which is nice. This was also my reasoning for this pairing as 545 was not as work intensive as 670 (needed for the majority of courses as a pre-req btw). Only the capstone courses (2 of them) require weekly work, the rest are just get it done by the end of the semester.

You don't need to rush to register since there's no cap for the online courses, but they do limit you to register for only 2 courses per semester and require an override for a 3rd (meaning spring 1 you can have 2 courses, spring 2 you can have 2 courses, and so on but if you wanted 3 for spring 1, you'd need to file an appeal). You are able to plan for up to 4 semesters ahead (meaning spring 1, spring 2, summer 1, and summer 2 are available).

They recommend taking 1 course to start. The program does have HonorLock exams and quizzes. They can be taken more than once for some courses, some with unlimited number of attempts. They do include coding assignments for this program (CodeGrade is used for grading) and additional projects to do on your own time that supplement the courses. 620, 625, 671 require the use of an AWS account to complete the lessons and they provide log in info for the AWS Academy.

I know some may have questions on religion and I'll do my best to answer based on my experience so far. There are no religious mentions in the courses from reading the syllabi and there's a few introductory discussion boards in the orientation and not one person mentioned religion. They do have prayer groups and other ministry events offered on campus and online that they email you about. Their communications, of course, mention scripture passages and are largely faith based but my communications with admissions, registrar, and the enrollment counselor did not include religion in any way.

Bryan is secretly an AI model trained by Jonathan, LevelUp, and Shoto to have a friendly disposition and have an answer for any question related to higher ed and degree hacking.

More like Bryan is the underlying mastermind though!
