BA in Religion - Atalanta - 02-16-2025 Your Location: Canada (Toronto) Your Age: 55 What kind of degree do you want?: BA in Religion from TESU. Eventually I would like to work up to a doctoral degree, but this appears to be a cheaper option to start with than attending a divinity school, even an online one. Plus it gives me a lot more flexibility in my choice of courses and doesn’t force me to subscribe to any particular creed. Current Regional Accredited Credits: None yet Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None yet Any certifications or military experience?: No Budget: as low as possible. Commitments: I am a full-time freelance translator and my work commitments can vary wildly from week to week. Dedicated time to study: Varies depending on workload. Timeline: No hurry; this is more of a bucket list thing than something I really need. Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Self-funded, probably. Hello everyone, I have been lurking and reading your posts for quite a while now, and the wealth of information is truly amazing, it has been an enormous help! Now it’s my turn to introduce myself and ask a question. I already have a Bachelor’s degree in Music and a Master’s degree in Translation Studies, both of which I obtained from universities in the UK. I have a hankering to work up to a doctorate, but there are no affordable doctoral degrees in translation, and the academic side of music frankly bores me to tears. However, I am fascinated by religious studies and also took some courses in this area while I was doing my Bachelor’s. After a lot of research and deliberation, I’ve decided I’d like to do the BA in Religion offered by TESU, for the reasons I outlined in the template. According to the program requirements ( https://www.tesu.edu/degrees-programs/bachelors/ba-religion.php ), I will need 24 credits in religion, but these will have to be transferred from elsewhere. I was wondering if anyone else has done this program and can tell me where they got these credits from? In this area, I am keen to focus on New Testament theology and early Christianity, including a course on New Testament Greek if I can find one. I have already found a couple of interesting courses at ASU, and there’s one at Athabasca here in Canada that I would love to do, but…. it all adds up to an awful lot of money. If anyone has any tips on where I can find courses in religion and theology that offer transferable credit at a reasonable price, I’d be really grateful. And of course, it would be great to hear about your experiences with this program in general. Many thanks in advance! RE: BA in Religion - jg_nuy - 02-17-2025 See the sample degree plan below https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sample_TESU_BA_Religion_Degree_Plan You can also find additional options via Genesis University which TESU treats as RA at times https://genesisu.edu/ RE: BA in Religion - Atalanta - 02-17-2025 (02-17-2025, 12:03 AM)jg_nuy Wrote: See the sample degree plan below That's a great help, thank you very much! RE: BA in Religion - bjcheung77 - 02-18-2025 Welcome to the board, there are a few options, does it have to be TESU because you're looking for an RA degree? You can complete the NA degree entirely using Sophia.org and Genesis University, they take up to 90 credits for transfer as well... If you have the energy, time to slowly get this done... Another option to investigate is NationsU, they're NA as well, they've got the BRS degree for cheap. If you need RA vs the NA options mentioned, there is also the Kairos BA Christian Thought and Practice. Yes, I think RA is going to be more convincing if I go on to Master's and doctorate level and decide to do this here in Canada. It's the flexibility of TESU I like, plus the fact that you don't have to belong to any specific religion or denomination, or toe any particular line in terms of doctrine and theology. Thanks for the tip about Kairos and Genesis though, they both have a couple of interesting courses. |
