History Major & Transfer Credits Questions - slreed - 02-07-2025
I’ve already have Transfer Credits Report and my Degree Plan Progress. I transferred 79 credits from 4 year colleges I attended.
Here’s what I have left to complete:
Gen Ed
2D Eng 211 or Art 108
3A Math 101 or 140
3B Math 101 or 140
3D Env 110
History
21 credits of UL courses
Gen Electives
9 credits
1. Would I be able to complete my Gen Ed courses through Sophia and transfer them in? That would make my total transfer hours 91. I know I would still need to take 30 at UMPI.
2. What EASY General Electives do you suggest for my 9 credits?
3. From what I’ve gathered, my 21 History credits will be basically whatever is currently offered which will fulfill that requirement and my advisor will be able to tell me those courses. Does that sound correct?
4. My goal is to finish the Sophia Gen Ed courses over the next few weeks until the beginning of the Spring term at UMPI. Then take the 10 courses remaining to finish my degree during the Spring term at UMPI. Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice? I’m currently waiting to be assigned an advisor.

I would finish the GEC on Sophia then see how many more credits you have available until you hit 90. Then I would take courses to fulfill the general electives. All of the history courses are available every term in YourPace. There are some in the catalog that are only available in campus so you have to look at the YourPace offerings. Your academic success coach will help you with this. I also highly recommend joining the UMPI Discord.

So, you've decided UMPI over TESU? Here's the WIKI pages for gen ed, equivalents from Sophia, plans, etc, take classes that don't have any touchstones and that don't duplicate your previous classes, and then if you still have some classes you need for residency credits, take the 3-4 that can go towards the MAOL.

Yes, and my transfer credits have already been accepted. I did find the Sophia equivalents for the remaining Gen Ed courses I need per my Degree Plan Progress at UMPI. I only have 4 Gen Ed courses left to complete, 21 credits in UL History (need to take at UMPI) and that would leave 9 credits for electives (need to take at UMPI) in order to finish my degree.
I'm waiting to be assigned an advisor so I can discuss this with them.

Transfer the general education from Sophia.org, take the 3 of the 4 classes on the WIKI that can go towards the MAOL if you can't think of anything, or take 3 of the classes required for another minor if you can transfer the rest from Sophia.org, there are a few choices or options to decide from on the Your Pace platform...
