Help with UMPI & Where to Take Other Classes - michaelb82 - 01-30-2025 I need some help on where I should be spending my time to complete my coursework. For some reason a bunch of credits didn't transfer over from a Criminal Justice Academy so I need to goto the Source and Request a Transcript - maybe 20 elective credits give or take. I work full-time and have 2 kids in elementary school - M-F work and get home around 6/630 - kids in bed by 830 so maybe have an hour or 1.5 hours. Weekends are free. I would like to get this done as soon as possible as I need to have any kind of Bachelor's Degree to use the Certified Financial Planner marks of which I already passed the exam. This is what my UMPI Undergraduate Advisement Report shows for a Business Administation Major and Accounting Concentration: RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS 30 Credits - Not Satisfied 3.00 taken, 27.00 needed 12 credits in the major 300 level or higher - 9 of the 12 at the 300 level or higher 9.00 required, 0.00 taken, 9.00 needed GEC GLO1 - Effective Written and Oral Communication ENG 101 Transfer 3.00 ENG 121 Not Satisfied: GEC GLO 1B 3.00 Needed POS 101, PCJ 215 or COM 210: GEC GLO 1C 3.00 Needed GEC GLO2 - Critical and Creative Thinking PSY 100 Transfer 3.00 SOC 100 Transfer 3.00 ENG 121 Not Satisfied GEC GLO 2C 3.00 Needed ENG 211 or ART 108 Not Satisfied GLO 2D 3.00 Needed ENG 151, HUM 184 or ART 211 Not Satisfied GEC - GLO 2E 3.00 Needed GEC GLO3 - Quantitive and Scientific Reasoning MAT 1XX Transfer 3.00 MAT 1XX Transfer 3.00 BIO 105 or HPR 101 Not Satisfied GEC GLO 3C 3.00 Needed ENV 110 Not Satisfied GEC GLO 3D 3.00 Needed BIO 105 Not Satisfied GEC GLO 3E 1.00 Needed GEC GLO4 - Information Literacy ENG 121 Not Satisfied GEC GLO 4B 3.00 Needed PHI 152 or SWK 202 Not Satisfied GEC GLO 4C 3.00 Needed GEC GLO5 - Global Consiousness and Intercultural Awareness SOC 100 Transfer 3.00 HTY 115, HTY 116, HTY 161, HTY 162 Not Satisfied GEC GLO 5B 3.00 Needed SPA 1XX Transfer 3.00 SPA 102 Transfer 5.00 PHI 152, POS 211, SWK 202 Not Satisfied GEC GLO 5D 3.00 Needed POS 101, POS 211, POS 332 Not Satisfied GEC GLO 5E 3.00 Needed BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION - YOURPACE REQUIREMENTS BUS 101 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 150 3.00 Graded BUS 200 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 220 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 244 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 325 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 353 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 440 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 469 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed ECO 207 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed MAT 140 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed COM 210 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION - ACCOUNTING CONCENTRATION (YOURPACE) BUS 350 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 352 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 361 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 362 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 376 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 377 Transfer 3.00 BUS 378 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed BUS 464 Not Satisfied 3.00 Needed RE: Help with UMPI & Where to Take Other Classes - bjcheung77 - 01-31-2025 Welcome back to the board... Exactly what I thought would happen, you've been swayed in multiple directions, and still stuck at that first/second phase. There are two issues, 1) Degree of choice. 2) Maxing the transfer credit. Your previous thread, I mentioned to do the quick degree, but some senior members thought otherwise. Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Degree-School-Help What you can do now is to complete whatever you're working on at UMPI, if you're going to finish this session (I suggest doing classes that can't be transferred in, or the 3-4 MAOL classes that can be used for the Masters), put the next session on hold. You're paying for a session at UMPI without knowing how to max the transfer of credits. You're missing so many of the classes from Sophia.org and Study.com... There's always good advice on this forum, in the last thread, you need to decide which pathway you want to go. My pathway recommendation right now is a quick check the box degree, then go the Masters route, BLS with a minor or two of your choice, plus the 3-4 classes that go towards the MAOL. An MAOL is very much like a MBA, but focus is on OL, not everyone needs a generic MBA (business administration). Generally, if I was in your shoes, and I'm a life long learner, you want to go for a degree and keep laddering upwards. You want to have a balanced trifecta mix/match of certs, degree, experience. Unless you're no longer going to go for a Masters or anything remotely in the future (like when you're 50+), then the Business degree is your best bet. RE: Help with UMPI & Where to Take Other Classes - ss20ts - 01-31-2025 Just an FYI... You only need 1 course to fulfill each area if the GEC. So if 5 courses are listed those 5 courses are your options to meet that requirement. You don't take all 5 courses. RE: Help with UMPI & Where to Take Other Classes - michaelb82 - 01-31-2025 Thank you - for clarification I don't need a Master's Degree. The plan after finishing my Bachelor's degree is to complete the IRS Enrolled Agent exams to obtain that certification. I'm actually not enrolled anywhere at the moment, I only did two sessions at UMPI and I didn't have the time or commitment to get anything done but two courses and family stuff going on that took my time and focus away. Is there some type of comparable list somewhere that says I should complete this course with Sophia, this course with Study.com and these courses at UMPI? Your previous thread, I mentioned to do the quick degree, but some senior members thought otherwise. Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Degree-School-Help I think I understand what you're saying now - I used the What-If scenario report and if I changed to a Bachelor of Liberal Studies with either an Accounting Minor or Business Administration Minor or BOTH - I could do those classes I need but then fill up the remaining number of hours required to get the degree and if I'm understanding correctly it can be any courses as long as I have 30 hours at UMPI and that any other courses I take equal up to 120 credit hours. You're saying I need the 9 upper level hours - 3 courses of 300 level or higher...then I need 18 more credit hours or 5 courses. The BLS report says 30 hours Residency and I have 3 hours - 27 hours remaining (9 courses). I need 9 credit hours (3 courses) of 300 level or higher. So I could take 3 courses - 300 level or higher at UMPI = 9 credit hours...then I take another 6 courses of something to get an additional 18 hours. That gives me the 30 hours for residency + 57 hours I have already. I'm at 87 credit hours but also still have to meet those Gen Eds too - 33 hours remaining or 11 courses. Also if I'm understanding right - I could then go back to get a Bachelors in Business Administration if I wanted to by completing additional credits and have 2 degrees? Are there certain courses I should be taking at Study.com, Sophia, and UMPI? RE: Help with UMPI & Where to Take Other Classes - bjcheung77 - 02-01-2025 Well, I would go for the BLS vs the Business Administration, to take the most transfer credit. It allows 60 credits of electives, anything you currently have that has college credit, vs Business admin has under 20. For residency purposes, you need to have 10 classes, if you don't know what to take, take the 4 classes that can be transferred into the MAOL, you'll be 3 classes complete for the MAOL (25% done). The WIKI that was linked earlier, has all the classes required for each degree plan, general education, and the 4 classes that can go towards the MAOL (3 of the 4 will transfer in, I just recommend taking all 4). You may not need a Masters, but with the cost, ease, speed, that's the cheapest you can get... It boils down to your energy and time management, doing 2 sessions for 2 classes wasn't ideal... put your UMPI on hold, get Sophia.org, Study.com done first. |
