TESU Sophia & Study.com Courses - slreed - 01-22-2025 I spoke with my advisor this morning. She waived the 100 credit requirement so I will begin Capstone and 1101 in February. My degree plan is for Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Humanities. I sent her a list of my Sophia and Study.com courses for her to approve. Do you see any courses that should be taken at Study.com vs Sophia or vice versa or are there any Study.com courses that are especially fast that I could do instead of a Sophia course or two? Here's what I sent her: Sophia Learning: To satisfy the Upper Level Humanities Credits: Ancient Greek Philosophy 3 credits Visual Communication 3 credits Conflict Resolution 3 credits To satisfy required courses not yet taken: Into to College Mathematics 3 credits Intro to Ethics 3 credits To satisfy Gen Ed Electives: Essentials of Managing Conflict 1 credit Art History II 3 credits Intro to Nutrition 3 credits Study.com: To satisfy required courses not yet taken: Presentation Skills 3 credits Total credits from Sophia & Study.com: 25 credits TESU Courses required: Capstone (registered for February start) 3 credits 1101 (registered for February start) 3 credits Transfer credits already accounted for: 89 credits Total of all credits listed above: 120 credits My goal is to graduate in June and we discussed that. As long as I transfer these credits by May 1st she said I would be fine. I'm getting busy tonight! I'm very excited and motivated. Thanks! Shannon RE: TESU Sophia & Study.com Courses - jg_nuy - 01-22-2025 These are not upper level at TESU from Sophia: Ancient Greek Philosophy 3 credits Visual Communication 3 credits Conflict Resolution 3 credits RE: TESU Sophia & Study.com Courses - slreed - 01-22-2025 (01-22-2025, 12:10 PM)jg_nuy Wrote: These are not upper level at TESU from Sophia: Do you know if they have any UL courses which would satisfy these credits or maybe Study.com? Thanks! RE: TESU Sophia & Study.com Courses - bjcheung77 - 01-22-2025 You have 89 credits transferred to TESU, those 89 will also go towards UMPI BLS. You just need 30 residency credits at UMPI, these classes combined is much easier than the 12 Week Capstone alone. Many people who have less to no commitments have completed all 10 classes in a fraction of that 8 week session, it really depends on that energy and time you can put into the degree classes. Apply now to UMPI as their application deadline is Feb 7, complete all 10 classes at end of May for June graduation, total cost is just $1700/8 week session. Not trying to swing you to UMPI, but you want to review my reply in your other thread: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-TESU-Liberal-Arts-Degree-Questions?pid=434614#pid434614 Note: UMPI requires a language and a lab class, because you haven't done the addendum and template, nor a spreadsheet of all the classes you've taken, I put links to previous posts and WIKI for UMPI for your review. For the cost, energy, time, UMPI is a heavy favorite to get this done at a comfy pace... RE: TESU Sophia & Study.com Courses - slreed - 01-22-2025 Thank you so much! I applied and already sent my transcripts. I have a lab class and two foreign language classes I will be transferring. I will check out the thread you linked for more info. I may have some other questions. I didn't see their detailed degree plans online. I need to find the one which is a best fit for completing as soon as possible. The cost is so much less and doing all the classes at one place is much simpler. RE: TESU Sophia & Study.com Courses - bjcheung77 - 01-22-2025 I'm copying/pasting what I mentioned here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-TESU-Liberal-Arts-Degree-Questions?pid=434645#pid434645 Yeah, decide on the BLS Minor of your choice and review the WIKI links of the required classes, you may need some extra classes to make up to a total of 10 if you're missing anything. You can take the 4 that can transfer to the MAOL as per the WIKI, just in case 1 doesn't get the required B+ to transfer over to the MAOL... If you're going for a Masters later on at UMPI (their MAOL), you'll have dropped that number to 9 from 12 and potentially can complete the degree in 1 session of 8 weeks for $2350 flat. RE: TESU Sophia & Study.com Courses - slreed - 01-22-2025 I have been analyzing my transcript and the course requirements for UMPI. One thing I noticed that will be a snag. TESU accepted a couple of courses where I made a D and gave me credit for those. I don't know if UMPI will do that. I have my transfer credits in my TESU degree plan. I took screenshots and wanted to send it to you to get your opinion. But I don't know if I can do that on this forum. Is that possible? Hopefully, UMPI will get back with me quickly. Is there someone I can call to discuss this or do I just wait until they have received and reviewed my transcripts? Is there a way to check on that process? I know there was with TESU but I haven't received even an email from UMPI today since I applied. So I don't have an account yet. I'm nervous because time is of the essence and if this isn't going to work out, I need to know very soon. I plugged my courses into the degree plan for History at UMPI and I ended up with needing 46 hours and that is if they take just about everything. I think it would be a better scenario with Liberal Studies. But I haven't done that yet. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks! RE: TESU Sophia & Study.com Courses - bjcheung77 - 01-22-2025 Here's a read from a few months ago, I mentioned Excelsior/UMPI only takes C- and higher, what you can do is to replace the D's with Sophia.org classes that are 3 credits and don't require touchstones (any assignments), try to get a course done a day or two, two classes would take 3-4 days or so: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Canadian-90-credit-BA-any-120-credit-BA?pid=419019#pid419019 You can create a spreadsheet, also attach screenshots to your posts. I usually get people to create a spreadsheet with all the requirements and review the WIKI plans to see what recommendations are for each requirement, link us to the file on your Google or Onedrive as viewable (not editable). Once you have all your classes in order, you can go from provider to provider and finish the residency credits last. I need to make a few adjustments and I did it using the degree plan for History which may not be the quickest path to finishing but it at least is a jumping off point. I’ll finish when I have a chance today and link it. Thank you for your patience. I made a few notes at the bottom of the UMPI spreadsheet comparing the two. I would approximately have 43 hours (best case scenario) to complete at UMPI and 31 hours at TESU. A big question for me is to verify UMPI confers degrees soon after all courses have been completed, as opposed to TESU waiting until September if I needed more time there. I need to have my degree before August so I can be hired as a full time high school teacher. https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-TESU-vs-UMPI-Degree-Plan Thanks! Shannon |
