UMPI - YourPace Business Administration, Management and Leadership Concentration, B.A - ctor2024 - 01-20-2025

Dear all,

I’m new to the forum and excited to be part of this community! ? I’m not a U.S. citizen, so the education system here (credits, General Education requirements, etc.) is a bit unfamiliar to me. I’ve been reading through many threads, which have been incredibly helpful, and I’ve decided to pursue my BA at UMPI.

After doing some research, I’ve developed a plan to gain my credits, but I’d love for you to take a look and let me know if it makes sense. Do I need to make any adjustments? Are there any pitfalls I should avoid? I am attaching my plan to the post.

Your feedback and advice would mean a lot to me! Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Best regards,

Chris

Welcome to the board, great intro post, having said that, you're missing some important info such as your budget, commitments, study habits, etc... With more details of your scenario, we can help you better... Basically, you really should also fill in the addendum and template from here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-New-to-DegreeForum-How-this-Area-works

Essentially, you want to max your transfers with Sohpia.org and if you need, Study.com (discount code is in my Bio/Signature), then finish off the degree requirements (30 credits residency) at UMPI. I would highly suggest you to pace yourself and not rush things. For example, do the $299/4 months of Sophia.org unless you can finish 45 classes in 2 months ($79 each month with coupon).

Thank you so much, @bjcheung77, for your reply and guidance!

I’ve filled out the template with my details and pasted it below for everyone to check out.

So, a little about me: I’m working full-time and I am also a husband and dad, which keeps my life pretty busy. The good news is, I get quite a bit of downtime at work that I can use to study. I think I can commit to at least 4 hours of study daily, and on some days, I think I can manage up to 10 hours. I’ve been working in my field for over 20 years, so I’m bringing some experience and knowledge to the table that might be useful (or not Smile

The main reason I want to earn this degree is that I’ve hit a bit of a ceiling in my career. A BA is what most employers are asking for to take the next step, so this feels like the right time to go for it.

Budget wise, I’m good with Sophia.org and Study.com as they fit well into my monthly expenses. For UMPI, I’d love to complete everything within two terms. My goal is to have it all wrapped up by end of this year (ideally August, but that might be a bit of a stretch).

I do have some degrees from Europe, but I think getting them accredited for credit might be more trouble than it’s worth. It feels easier (and faster) to just complete the courses online.

Does my plan seem realistic? Is there anything you’d suggest I adjust? I’d love to hear any advice or tips to help me stay on track.

Thanks again for all the support! This forum has been such a great resource for me already.

Best,

Chris

Hello @ctor2024

Thank you for sharing your degree plan! As a fellow international student, I’m curious about how you ensured your degree would be accredited in Kyrgyzstan. Was the process straightforward, or did you face any challenges?

Your insights would be really helpful.

Hi Wordlyface,
Good question! I actually don’t need the degree for my current job in Kyrgyzstan, but I’m planning ahead for opportunities in other regions, such as China and the South Asia Pacific. From my research, most of the countries I hope to work in someday do recognize and accept UMPI degrees, so it’s a strategic step for my future career goals.
Thanks for asking!
