Teceps and TESU’s RA req/Their residency req. - Bm1992 - 01-08-2025

Do Teceps meet the RA req and the residency req?

RE: Teceps and TESU’s RA req/Their residency req. - jg_nuy - 01-08-2025

RA yes, residency only if you are military.

What would the total $ be if I do 6 Teceps and pay the residency waiver, then take the cornerstone and capstone?

RE: Teceps and TESU’s RA req/Their residency req. - davewill - 01-08-2025

Each 3 credit TECEP is $156. A 3cr online course is $1668. The residency waiver fee is $3,354. That comes out to:

(156 * 6) + (1668 * 2) + 3354 = $7628

If cost is your biggest concern, then it's cheaper to do a single 15cr fixed price term of $4,428, which will get you 15cr, including the cornerstone and capstone, and cover the residency requirement. Three of those can be ePack courses which are more self-paced than the usual online course. If you find it difficult to finish 15cr in one term, you can extend the capstone course for 8 weeks for $248. Then three more TECEPs for $468.

4428 + 468 = $4896

Time is more my concern. My current plan is to go to Excelsior. The issue is that they just changed their transfer credit policy for sophia partners. Anyone with 2 or more courses done through their partners now has to do 15 credits with them aswell. So three classes. Now instead of graduating in July, I wont be done until September. Its not a huge hinderance, I started in September and have been gringing courses left and right and am down to my final few before I enroll. But, if there is a faster way I may be interested. So, I believe with EU the total cost will be around $8,000 now. I get a Pell Grant which should cover most of it anyhow.

Well, the difference between the two choices isn't really calendar time, as you're doing all of those 15cr in one term. The difference is money, and possibly actual time spent studying.

As I mentioned in the linked post: "And that's where people make the mistake, it's not where the max number of credits come into play, it's the overall energy, money, time, spent on completing the degree."  This is a continuation of a previous post in your other thread: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Excelsior-now-only-allows-105-transfer-credits?pid=433694#pid433694

Excelsior max transfer of 113 credits (all RA) or 105 (alternative credit).  You can finish the degree of either way, the fastest would be at least 2 terms as the Capstone and Cornerstone can't be done on the same term.  The cost will vary from roughly $4K if you transfer 113 up to $7K+, fastest would be 16 weeks.

TESU max transfer of 114 credits (90 Alternative, 24 RA, 6 at TESU) or (90 alternative, 15 RA, 15 at TESU).  Depending on which way you do things, you can still get this done in 1 term of 12 weeks.  Cost is 6 credits plus residency waiver fee $7628 or the flat rate tuition $4896.

UMPI max transfer of 90 credits, 30 has to be completed at UMPI.  You can complete these in 1 session of 8 weeks for $1700.  If you need another session, it'll be $3400 for 30 credits in 16 weeks.  My suggestion is going the TESU or UMPI route, with UMPI being the heavy favorite.

Basically, UMPI classes are very similar to a Sophia.org / Study.com combo, where you pay for a subscription and take all you can eat at your own pace, that's why it's called "YourPace".  The faster you get things done, the lesser it will cost overall.  You can take the 4 classes towards the MAOL for later if you need a Masters.

As far as length of classes at UMPI. Is it similar to Sophia or similar to Study? Sophia I can do a course a day. Study is more like one a week.

Basically, I'm not going to answer anything that's too subjective in nature, as it really varies... There are people who spend the entire day completing their degree and was able to do an entire degree from UMPI or WGU within a matter of weeks. Many others who have commitments and life happens moments will need an extra session or term, my example...

I did 7 out of 10 classes in 1 session, for my next session I'm taking all 4 of the classes that can transfer to the MAOL, even though only 3 can transfer, as I want to make sure I get a B+ or higher in each and every one of them. I can do Sophia.org classes in a day, Study.com would take me a tad longer, I did many Coursera/TEEX and other cheapies or freebies along the way.

In short, max that transfer, get a balanced mix and match of the trifecta I always recommend, certs, degree, experience... Do so with regards to cost, ease, speed to finish, add some ROI/Value to that and you've got your personalized punch in the way you want to get the number of certs, degrees, and X years of experience.

I’ve got over 120 credits to transfer already. Mostly Sophia some Saylor. I just started Study this week. Currently I’m a stay at home dad. I have at least 6-8 hours a day to do school. Also, my original plan was a Business with finance concentration. Does UMPI have an option to put a concentration on a degree?
