Degree plan advice - Degreehelp123 - 11-18-2024 Hello, I am currently looking at obtaining my bachelors and I came across this wonderful site. I was wondering if anyone would have any insight on what degree plan could be completed quickly. I am already established in my career and just need a degree to check off a box. Thank you so much for any advice! Your Location:Maryland Your Age:26 What kind of degree do you want?:BLS w/ management minor or BABA managment & Leadership Current Regional Accredited Credits:93 In Total SOPHIA LEARNING: 39 credits Introduction to Statistics Intro Soc: Embrac Diver/Collab Project Management Critical Thinking Health, Fitness, and Wellness Principles of Finance Workplace Communication College Algebra Business Law Principles of Marketing Principles of Management Managerial Accounting Financial Accounting Howard Community College: 44 credits Fund of Public Speaking Introduction to Sociology Film and Philosophy Western Civilization & Pre-Mod Ant World Prehistory to Mid American History to 1877 Intro to World Geography First Year Experience Ethics in Literature College Composition I Operating Systems Developing for Web Software Application for Micro Beginning Databases Beginning Spreadsheets Business Ethics Intro to Busn and Organization Biology and Society Principles of Accounting I University of Maryland Baltimore County: 10 credits Intro to Astrobiology Elementary German I Principles of Macroeconomics Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None Any certifications or military experience?: None Budget: Any Commitments: Full Time job 40 hr/week however I work remote and can put in time to study during working hours Dedicated time to study:20 hours per week Timeline: preferably 6 months if starting in January semester Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None I already sent my transfer credits over to UMPI and all 93 were accepted. I am trying to decide between the BLS and BABA listed above, whichever is quicker or has less math is preferable. Once again thank you to whomever takes the time to look through this. I cant put into words how much I appreciate it RE: Degree plan advice - ss20ts - 11-18-2024 Neither one is quicker. They're about the same. Same for the math. The BABA requires MAT140 which is the easiest math class there is. And you've already taken intro to stats so the math requirements for the BLS are completed. RE: Degree plan advice - DavidGood - 11-18-2024 Either way you'll need to complete at least 10 classes @ UMPI, depending on what classes your transfer credits have satisfied. I can't speak for BLS, but I could have completed BABA in 1 session. Opted to get a couple of minors, so it stretched into 2 sessions. It depends on how well you can write and can do powerpoint, motivation, circumstances. etc. GPA is also a factor. My impression is that working to get a 4.0 does take a little more time than slipping through with A- or B+. For most, 6 months is more than enough time to do 10 classes. RE: Degree plan advice - LevelUP - 11-18-2024 The BLS will be quicker if you have lots of transfer credits. You're still limited to 90 credits applying to a degree. You still have to complete at least 10 courses at UMPI. Most people in the BLS are completing the same business courses the BABAs require. I've done both and neither one was faster than the other one. RE: Degree plan advice - Hackingat40 - 11-18-2024 (11-18-2024, 04:00 PM)ss20ts Wrote: Neither one is quicker. They're about the same. I highly recommend taking it over PCJ315 (11-18-2024, 05:06 PM)DavidGood Wrote: Either way you'll need to complete at least 10 classes @ UMPI, depending on what classes your transfer credits have satisfied. this is 100% true! I didnt know that powerpoints where such a big deal. Some assessment instructions say powerpoint I got feedback saying I wasnt creative enough with it....fixed it and boom better grade. Through the UMPI process I am becoming a better writer, Powerpoint presentation builder, and a better presenter thanks to all of the courses which for everyone this relates to the real world when time comes. RE: Degree plan advice - bjcheung77 - 11-19-2024 Depending on your future goals, you want to have a balanced mix/match trifecta of certs, degree, experience, and work towards the Masters if that's your end goal. Since you're just 29 years of age, you can go for the BABA and have classes taken towards the MAOL if that's a goal of yours. If you were much older and had plenty of certs and experience, I would just do the check the box BLS and again, take classes that go towards the MAOL as well, just in case you want to get a Masters later. RE: Degree plan advice - Degreehelp123 - 11-19-2024 Thanks for all the help everyone. I reached out to see if I can have some of my credits transferred over to fulfill other requirements( my 4 credit bio class is only switching over as an elective) and the advisor stated that a credit evaluation cannot be completed until 2 weeks after the next yourpace term. Does anyone know if there is a way to expedite this? RE: Degree plan advice - ss20ts - 11-19-2024 (11-19-2024, 11:35 AM)Degreehelp123 Wrote: Thanks for all the help everyone. Does anyone know if there is a way to expedite this? That doesn't make any sense. A credit evaluation can be done at any time unless they've created a new policy all of a sudden. There are several new hires working as academic success coaches and some aren't up to speed yet. Your transcripts will show you how each class transfers to UMPI. You can create your own degree plan in Excel. Simply type up the degree requirements for each degree and fill in your credits. The GEC will mostly be the same except for the math. The BABA requires MAT140 or Calculus. Even though UMPI accepted 93 credits only 90 will apply to any degree. You will be required to complete a minimum of 30 credits at UMPI no matter which degree you complete. I asked if I could have certain credits reevaluated for example I wanted to see if my class “film and philosophy” could be reevaluated to fulfill the requirement for “introduction to film” instead of as a philosophy elective. And I was told “This process begins by completing this form for the Transfer Credit Office. In the form, you will be asked to upload the syllabus of any courses you wish to reevaluate. This is required in order for you to submit the form.” Do you know if there is another advisor I can escalate this too? Response to my inquiry about timeframes was " |
