Advice for Starting Out (again) - Petra - 10-01-2024 Good morning. I'm a returning student working Help Desk. I'd like to finish a Software Engineering degree as quickly as possible. WGU seems to be a good option for me. What is the process for applying/transferring credits like? For example, I have credits from 3 different colleges over time. I want to take as many Sophia/SDC courses as possible. Shall I take all the Sophia/SDC coursework first and then apply to WGU? Can I verify which previous courses will transfer before applying to WGU so that I'm not locked out from transferring new coursework? I'm not sure about the order of these operations. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Your Location: Virginia, USA Your Age: 38 What kind of degree do you want?: Software Engineering (Java) Current Regional Accredited Credits: 38 Any certifications or military experience? No Budget: Small as possible Commitments: None Dedicated time to study: 14hrs/week (more, if necessary) Timeline:ASAP Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None RE: Advice for Starting Out (again) - Imbanewbie - 10-01-2024 (10-01-2024, 08:31 AM)Petra Wrote: Good morning. You can find transfer guidelines for WGU. https://partners.wgu.edu/general-transfer-guidelines RE: Advice for Starting Out (again) - LevelUP - 10-01-2024 You would need to apply to WGU to see how your courses will transfer. WGU typically does not take courses over five years old. You can also apply to TESU and see how your courses will transfer there. Then pick the best option after that. RE: Advice for Starting Out (again) - bjcheung77 - 10-01-2024 +1, I agree with the above info in the previous posts... In addition to that, you may want to do a balanced mix/match of certs, degree, experience. For example, if you can get Coursera Certs (with ACE credits), match that up with UMPI BABA PM & IS, and add the experience you already have, it may offset the need for WGU BSSD - Software Development degree. If you really want to do the WGU degree, review the transfer guide posted earlier... RE: Advice for Starting Out (again) - allvia - 10-01-2024 I too would recommend applying to TESU for their BACS, especially since you already have RA college credits. They may be a better fit with your time to study, take many older credits, and likely not much more cost than WGU (likely even less if you need two terms). |
