TESU computer science and information systems are the same degree - Chann - 09-17-2024

Morning,
I transferred in all my courses from Sophia and studydotcom for computer science degree and information systems to take both at the time, but an advisor was telling me that the two degrees are almost the identical and no one is taking both at the same time because they are overlapping each other with only 3 courses are allowed. These two degrees can be full fill with the study.com courses. Basically, I will get a degree from study.com with the official name of TESU. there is zero school out there with the degrees in computer science and information systems that the students didn’t require to take any of the computer science courses with the school and still can graduates . that only at TESU.

That's the same for COSC, Excelsior, in addition to TESU and any other institution that allows you to transfer of 75% or more of the classes... The reason is, you can selectively choose what classes you want to transfer in and take only the classes that are required (or not transferable). Most of the institutions do not allow the major to be transferred, only the general education and electives, but these 3 and a few others, allow a max of 113/114 credits out of 120. Athabasca U has a BGS, that is 100% transfer, you don't need to take anything from them, just like the Pierpont BOG AAS... 100% transfer, no classes!

And that's why we call them the "Big3" here. UMPI and other competancy based education (CBE) schools are becoming more popular here because they can be cheaper overall. However, for someone who already has a lot of transfer courses, doesn't want to deal with the pace needed to make per session pricing affordable, or needs a degree that isn't available from one of the CBE providers, they are still a great alternative.

Doing a computer science and a business administration degree gives you the most career options and allows you to round out your knowledge in different areas.

All TESU degrees

BS Computer Information Systems
https://www.tesu.edu/business/undergraduate/bsba/computer-information-systems

Note
The BS CIS degree used to say Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in CIS. If you don't want to waste time explaining to employers that this is really a Business Administration degree, you can opt to do a concentration in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, or Operations Management, so then it will say Business Administration on your transcript.

BA CS & BSBA CIS Double Degree Plan

BS Information Technology or BS Cloud Computing
https://www.tesu.edu/ast/programs/bs/it
https://www.tesu.edu/ast/programs/bs/cloud-computing

Note: With all the overlap in courses, it doesn't make sense to get a BA Computer Science and BS in IT or BS Cloud.

As you mentioned, what is great about TESU is that once you transfer everything in, there aren't any more hard CS classes to navigate. You can customize the degree by adding whatever courses you want, and even if they don't fit into the degree, they will still go on your transcript.

I just wanted to finish the computer science degree and move to another school for the masters . The TESU advisors are smoking cracks. They are the most terrible advisors that I have never worked with, one person said this and the other said that. They just wanted students to stay longer and pay for more money.

Just about everything the op stated is incorrect.
By all means take all the courses you want from tesu. You don’t have to apply Sophia or sdc credits to your degree. Your choice. Free country.

I'm beginning to think TESU isn't the problem in this situation......

Who's the friendliest? Pick Me! Yes, Me!  Another moderator removed your previous post due to the content.  Changes happen with TESU, sometimes it's out of your control, find ways around it if possible, if not, decide a different path.  A few minutes ago, I replied to this person: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Was-rejected-for-BA-COS-Bio-BS-CIS

Not sure why you directed to this to me, but, the other mod in the thread did the deletion...  I'll let them decide what to do with the remainder of the posts or thread.  I usually don't delete anything unless it is spam...  And I understand you completely.  Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-What-are-the-most-important-lessons-you-ve-learned-in-life?pid=340019#pid340019

One thing to note is you're taking things too personally, TESU staff are people and they do things differently, don't get all worked up on that.  I take those obstacles as opportunities to understand how their system works.  Furthermore, you're thinking a reply to your post was a 'personal attack' or something, they're just providing advice - short and simple.  I read the following this way...

Them: "Just about everything the op stated is incorrect. By all means take all the courses you want from tesu. You don’t have to apply Sophia or sdc credits to your degree. Your choice. Free country."

Me: OP may be incorrect in a few points.  You can take as many classes you need from TESU that can't be transferred.  You don't have to take Sophia.org, Study.com, you can take it from community college or other universities.  It's your choice.

I know what it means! I am not as cool or hip as you...
