New UMPI Academic Catalog 2024-2025 - turbotortuga - 08-10-2024 Heads up, guys. It looks like UMPI has made some signifigant changes to the degree requirements for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. I count 6 new required courses for the BBA degrees, along with an increase in the BBA core to 57 sem hours up from 36 sem hours, with a reduction in the concentration hours to 12 sem hours per concentration. This means that once the BBA core is completed, it may be even easier to get multiple BBA concentrations completed depending on the individual students goals. I also count 3 new courses in the BA Accounting degree plan, along with a elimination of BUS 469, so an increase of 6 sem hours for that degree. http://catalog.umpi.edu/content.php?catoid=7&navoid=260 RE: New UMPI Academic Catalog 2024-2025 - BritStudent - 08-10-2024 (08-10-2024, 09:53 PM)turbotortuga Wrote: Heads up, guys. Doesn't it look like there's a lot less Sophia / Coursera credits that transfer in now? I think from my own plan, I'm looking to have to do 12 classes minimum at UMPI, plus 2 more if I want to do English comp I and II and that's if I transfer Sophia Business Ethics and the IBM Data analyst cert, meaning I won't have the same ease to ladder up to the MAOL. With the increased price this seems to have changed the value proposition quite drastically? This change should not affect anyone who was enrolled and began coursework at UMPI prior to Fall 2024, unless they choose to change their catalog to the new 2024-2025 Academic Catalog Year. Anyone who actually begins coursework at UMPI in Fall 2024 and later, should be under this catalog. The same value is there as the degree is still 120 semester hours required, one would just have to find alternative credit for the newly added courses over time. However, when one looks at the changes from Summer 2023 to now in Fall 2024, with UMPI moving away from STRUT to BrightSpace, eliminating exams for the Final Assesments, raising tuition by $200, and now adding additional coursework for thier most popular YourPace degree (BBA), it does seem to be much more of a time/money sink and the hassle factor has increased trememdously. If I was beginning this semester, I'd have to really weight UMPI against WGU more carefully IMO. I know a lot of members on this board don't care for WGU, the value propsition is pretty high for them as they still have proctored exams for the Final Assessment and I prefer exams over anything else. RE: New UMPI Academic Catalog 2024-2025 - BritStudent - 08-11-2024 Annoyingly the official course page still lists the old requirements: https://www.umpi.edu/yourpace/academic_programs/bba-project-management/#courses WGU personally isn't an option due to not being in the US, so if UMPI is out I can look at PUG and maybe TESU again, but I should probably just wait till I complete my Cybersecurity degree. RE: New UMPI Academic Catalog 2024-2025 - ss20ts - 08-11-2024 Don't panic! If you're already taking classes these changes don't impact you. So far this is for on campus programs. Could changes happen in YourPace? Sure. Again do not panic. I looked at the BABA with Marketing Concentration which I completed in 2022 and there's 1 different course than I completed. 2 of the marketing courses moved from the concentration into the major courses. I wouldn't panic. Degree programs changed. Where is the idea that there is additional coursework in the new catalog? Degrees have always been 120 credits. The work hasn't changed. Yes tuition has increased. WGU increased tuition and fees almost every year. WGU also has proctored exams which have plenty of issues. If one prefers exams then you have to deal with that problem which is very inconsistent. I had both decent and awful experiences with the proctoring at WGU and LSU. No system is perfect. RE: New UMPI Academic Catalog 2024-2025 - DavidGood - 08-11-2024 I am admitted to start BABA-PM via YourPace, Fall I. I just looked at my academic plan. No changes. RE: New UMPI Academic Catalog 2024-2025 - BritStudent - 08-11-2024 It's not so much that the degree is now more than 120 credits of course, it's that classes I've been taking as part of my plan to transfer may now just be time wasted, plus I'd ideally want to complete the degree in one semester and so wanted to transfer the max amount and aim for 10 UMPI classes. I'd imagine the chance of completing in one semester gets significantly less realistic if I'm suddenly aiming at 12+ UMPI only classes. I've just put in my application, sent over my OU classes and my Credly transcript, and I'll see what they say in terms of what courses I have to take. If it's on the new plans then I'll probably stick with UMPI and do a History & Political Science degree or maybe something else. My rough current plan is to complete the degree in time to apply for a Cyber security or Comp Sci online Masters at GeorgiaTech next year. RE: New UMPI Academic Catalog 2024-2025 - davemodular - 08-12-2024 This may help some : I heard back from my academic advisor regarding the catalog for 24/25 -Note: I'm pursuing a BLS degree at UMPI. Here are my questions and her answers: Good Afternoon Dave, Thank you for your email. I have responded to your questions below in bold. 1. Will I need to take more GEC courses besides what I have left, which is the Eng 121 course I plan on fulfilling by taking the CLEP College Composition exam? No changes to BLS MIS or GEC at this time. 1.A Does UMPI still accept CLEP to satisfy this requirement? Yes 2. Will UMPI still accept the Google Data Analytics Professional Certification in place of this course, BUS 245: Programming for Managers? Yes If you have any other questions please let me know. Thank you, Chelsey RE: New UMPI Academic Catalog 2024-2025 - dhiness - 08-13-2024 Wow. I hope that I will be able to stay on the Catalog still listed on the Your Pace degree plan page for BABA Management. I've been working hard to only have 10 credits to do at UMPI, and with these changes, I will have 3 additional classes that were not requirements before to add to my plan. So discouraging. I am three weeks from finishing my last two Study.com courses to apply for the Fall session. RE: New UMPI Academic Catalog 2024-2025 - ss20ts - 08-13-2024 We are already seeing students being admitted for Fall 1 and their degree plans have not changed. Don't panic! |
