Rant about "affordable" MBA programs - Heartstrings - 08-04-2024

I am not sure if this is a rant or not. I already have two Master's degrees and I am PhD-ABD. I was looking to go for an MBA that I could pay out of pocket. I am looking to use it just to study not to land a job. UoPeople's prices have doubled since I last considered them. They went from $200 to $400 per class. My advisor couldn't speak to me because they came from a culture or religion that doesn't talk to females. I ended up dropping them. With their prices, I might as well go to a RA school that has the proper business accreditations. They are some that are few thousand more than their current prices. I thought about HAU but I need to ask if they have a payment plan on one class at time. I can't come up with a large sum at once. If anyone knows please let me know about HAU. If not I will have to look somewhere else. I did apply to Elmwood for their MLM program and I do live in a state that has the SARA authorizations.

Hard to beat the Elmwood price. For HAU, you can break up the tuition into 4 quarterly payments of $750 each, for $3000 in total for the program.

If you are looking to use it just to study (as opposed to for a job) and dont have the funds, then why not just self study for it, do the ENEB MBA, or wait for the free MBA from Saylor?

Elmwood does not participate in SARA, as they are based in CA, as FYI.

Great point about Saylor. That one will be free, although I have no idea when. On the plus side, the courses are already available on Saylor, they just won’t apply to their MBA yet. That would be a good way to study for free especially if you don’t need the actual credential. Just look for their business admin courses that are 500 and up.

Thanks for letting me know about SARA and Elmwood. I live in Texas so I thought that was on a list of state authorizations. I will definitely checkout Saylor....Thanks.

It is authorized in those states through BPPE, not NC-SARA.

That's wild about the UoPeople advisor. Someone unwilling to talk to half the student population should not be in that position. Freedom of religion is fine, but does not include freedom to impose your religion on other people. Was there at least a process for switching advisors?

(I agree though that it has become too expensive for what it is. I took one class there and the peer grading process was excruciating--and this comes from someone who has generally had positive experiences with peer grading outside of University of the People. I got so tired of people with poor English giving me, a professional writer and editor of more than 20 years at that point, zero grades for my "poor grammar.")

Also, do you know about the ASU Thunderbird 100 Million Learners program? It's been talked about elsewhere on this thread. It's a free certificate program consisting of 5 graduate level courses in various business and leadership topics. There is also an undergraduate version.  Eventually there will be the possibility of earning academic credit for these, as well, but if you're don't need the degree for a job, I would think the certificate should suffice. Just do a search for "ASU 100 million learners".

None of my emails or questions were getting answered. They went ignored so I droppedtge program. Then I get an email from a female that said I am writing to you on behalf of your advisor to not drop the program. I just never looked back.

I am signed up for ASU 100 million learners.

Someone posted in another thread about an MBA from Jindal University in India via Coursera at less than $2000: https://www.coursera.org/degrees/mba-business-analytics-jgu/student-experience

It's supposed to take one to two years to complete. You can pay in installments. THe first is $300.
