SNHU India Scholarship - asthewindblows - 07-20-2024
Hello,
After a lot of consideration I decided on SNHU over TESU because of the cost. A person I know online said they got 65% scholarship, which swayed me. I spoke with a sales person and they said they only offer 30%, and this has been running for 30 days. They claim it ends today, in an hour and a half from now... I feel like they are trying to pressure me into a sale. Has anyone else felt like that? Is SNHU India definitely legit? Can anyone confirm if this deal has been running for 30 days? Am I right to be cautious?

I have a friend that got 50% a year or so ago. I'm not sure about the criteria or specifics on why she was awarded 50% but it definitely wasn't a timed promotion.

Thank you! I've decided to decline their offer for now, but I will wait a bit. If they later come back to me and give me 60% I will go ahead, if not I think I would rather go with TESU. Do you think this is a smart move? It is for computer science.

It really depends on your situation. What country are you from? What country do you plan to work/live in? What career are you pursuing? How many credits do you have and what type of institution are they from? How many alternative credits do you have?
As there's many options out there, I recommend posting on at Degree Planning Advice forum with the addendum.

I'd also ask them for clear information about if they accept ACE credit to accelerate the degree. Apparently the Latin American school only accepts college transfer credit which will be redundant for a ton of subjects because Latin America classes such as for English are designed to teach the student how to pass Toefl exams and they are not essay heavy like US college English courses.
So, unless the student already has a ton of foreign college credit that is similar enough to US curricula, they will be spending far more time and money than if they crammed Sophia/Study courses and went to UMPI or Tesu instead.

Whenever you're trying to ask questions and look for answers, you want to provide as much info as possible. Most people just ask for things that only they can decide on... Advice is just that, many people spend their time providing solid options, but the prospective student has the final say. Try not to miss information when asking and not providing enough info to help point you to that goal. UK. I'm not sure which country I'll work in next but for now I'll be working in the UK, with plans to work abroad. Software development. No credits, I plan to get them.

I have asked, and it's really shady... They message you from a personal number, so you have to send over sensitive information to a personal account. They said they do accept credits, but wouldn't go into detail. I have to enroll for more information, and enrolling costs money obviously.

For example, here I was given less than two hours to make a decision about something quite expensive... So I declined. I've changed names for privacy reasons and only copied some of the conversation so it's fair use i.e. doesn't violate copyright.
I'll finish working on my degree plan, and see if I can make a plan that caters to a few schools, then do the courses that overlap. That sounds like the best thing to do currently. I really don't want to go with TESU because it's a BA, and while yes you can change electives to make the course comparable, the average person likely isn't doing that. Plus, the average person likely isn't going to see BA as the same.

Nice chat log, hmm... some institutions have 'outside' promotions or sales staff, many are contractors and don't really work at the institution. I believe the international offices for universities are all contracted, thus, you'll get these type of people trying to get to you enroll. I would just go the TESU route...

Yeah I am starting to think so as well or at least not go the SNHU route. It's a shame they have to behave that way. For now I have started to make an excelsior planning guide (this is my favorite right now as it ticks all the boxes, except price), and then I'll make a TESU and SNHU one. If there's an overlap in the courses e.g. I can do basics to programming at all three, I can then begin to do a few courses while I am a bit undecided.

I read your other thread. Since you are already a developer and have management experience, what is the point of a CS degree? Are you trying to learn programming traditionally or/and aiming for the diploma/credentials? Honestly, if you are an experienced developer, I doubt you would learn anything useful/relevant at the undergraduate level. In my opinion, you would get more value for your money by getting the quickest/cheapest bachelor’s by doing UMPI BABA PM into a CS masters like Georgia Tech Online Master of Science in Computer Science.
Cost: 4 months Sophia Plan $300 + $150 3 months Coursera (I'm not sure, Coursera pricing is confusing and it can be cheaper overseas) + $3,400 UMPI two 8 week session tuition (though since you can spare 80 hours of study time a week, you will probably complete it in 1 session) + $6,492 Georgia Tech OMSCS (30 credit hours * $195 per Credit hour + 107 mandatory semester fee * 6 semesters) + $2,033.10 for 3 recommended MOOCs for OMSCS admission = ~$12,375.10 which is less than £10,000 ($12,923.60 as of 7/21/2024).
The Sophia + Coursera will take care of UMPI's general education requirements and transfer in over 90 credits into UMPI. The 2 sessions at UMPI should be enough to graduate with a Bachelor's degree. The OMSCS program is difficult. It’s one of those programs that are relatively easier to get into but much harder to graduate from due to the rigorous coursework. They require TOEFL for international applicants but I’m not sure if that would be required with a US bachelor's degree. There are some recommended prerequisite courses that I would recommend taking at any community college, but you can also complete it via their MOOCs. I don't know if you have to complete all of them if you have relevant work experience but you can probably get more accurate information on the OMSCS subreddit.
I do think you should just go UMPI BABA for the Bachelor's degree checkmark, pursue relevant certs, and build up a portfolio. If you find the Bachelor's lacking, you could always pursue the OMSCS later or any of the other exceptional online CS master's that are currently available.
