UMPI Gen Eds leftover credits question - ecomony - 07-12-2024 If I only need 40 credits in my gen eds, but I have 54, will my classes be used for multiple Gen Ed checkboxes allowing more credits to go into electives? For example, I can transfer PHI 104 Intro to Ethics at my community college and it would check the box for Gen Eds 2a, 2b, or 4c. But on my plan I have on my own Google sheet, I put PSY 101 for 2a, SOC 101 for 2b, and PHI 104 for 4c. You are allowed to use one class for multiple gen ed requirements, you just need 40 Gen Ed credits to graduate. Since I have the possibility of transferring in 54, I think it would be a good idea to use PHI 104 for ALL THREE requirements, that way I'll still have the minimum 40, but I'll have 6 extra (PSY 101 and SOC 101) to go into Electives. Does that make any sense? I have lots of gen eds but need more electives so I'd like them to transfer them in that way! RE: UMPI Gen Eds leftover credits question - ss20ts - 07-12-2024 You need a minimum of 40 credits for the GEC. Any over that will be used to fulfill your general electives. Without knowing what 54 credits you have and which degree you're looking to complete I can't say if any of those courses will also apply to your major. For example if you are completing a BABA and took Intro to Project Management then that would be put towards your major requirements. If you took Art History 1 and 2 then only 1 of them would apply towards the GEC and the other would apply towards your general electives. One class can fulfill multiple areas of the GEC. You will still need a minimum of 40 credits in the GEC. UMPI will actually evaluate your transcripts and apply the courses. It's not something you'll be doing. RE: UMPI Gen Eds leftover credits question - bjcheung77 - 07-12-2024 Basically, as I mentioned in your other post/thread, you need to create a degree spreadsheet with what you have completed and what you have remaining for the degree of choice from UMPI. We have plans on the WIKI, even a page for the General Education options. If you really need to - You can deviate from the plans, but I would recommend sticking with them unless you need that customization or personalization... Lastly, are you deciding between SNHU and UMPI? You should decide which degree/institution you're looking at, both allow a max of 90 credits transferred, you still need to complete the residency requirements. You can transfer your current credits and see which institution gives you a more favorable evaluation, but, you need to see which can get you to the finish line cheaper, easier, faster, with a little bit more ROI/Value over the other. I have a huge spreadsheet with five tabs, including tabs for all classes I've taken at my community college and all classes I've taken at Sophia with their class names, codes, and amount of credits. I was deciding between SNHU and UMPI. I decided on UMPI. The Sophia credits are easy to figure out because of the degreeforum wiki. The community college ones are not. Not all of them show up on MaineStreet. RE: UMPI Gen Eds leftover credits question - bjcheung77 - 07-16-2024 That's great, as I mentioned, get an evaluation and you'll know where you stand... Us volunteers don't work for the institution, we don't have a specific list, so we go by what people report back and members update the wiki... |
