Need Help with UMPI - havefaithandgraduate - 06-26-2024 Hello, you can call me Faith and this will be my first post. I've been lurking here for the past few days and honestly still feeling a bit confused about where to begin. However, I believe starting with introducing myself using the provided addendum and template would be a good way to start. (If I missed any crucial information, please feel free to let me know, thank you!) Your Location: California, United States Your Age: 26 What kind of degree do you want?: (These are my options, and I am still unsure which one to choose) - UMPI YourPace: BABA Project Management & Information Systems - UMPI YourPace: BABA Management & Leadership - UMPI YourPace: BABA Supply Chain Management - * Open to other business degrees if they are faster - ** Interested at MAOL Current Regional Accredited Credits: Pasadena City College Courses ACCT 001A - Financial Accounting ACCT 001B - Managerial Accounting AJ 010 - Introduction to the Administration of Justice AJ 012 - Concepts of the Criminal Law AJ 014 - Legal Aspects of Evidence AJ 018 - Community Relations AJ 019 - Principles of Investigation ANTH 001 - Physical Anthropology BUS 009 - Introduction to Business BUS 011A - Business Communications BUS 012A - Business Law BUS 014A - Mathematical Analysis BUS 014B - Mathematical Analysis ECON 001A - Principles of Macroeconomics ECON 001B - Principles of Microeconomics ENGL 001A - Reading and Composition GEOL 001 - Physical Geology with Lab HIST 041 - History of Asian Pacific Americans HUM 001 - Introduction to Humanities MATH 131 - Intermediate Algebra MUSC 024B - History of Rock Music PHIL 025 - Introduction to Critical POLS 001 - Introductory to American PSYC 021 - Developmental Psychology PSYC 023 - Social Psychology PSYCH 001 - Introductory Psychology PSYCH 002 - Elementary Physiological SOC 001 - Introduction to Sociology SOC 002 - Contemporary Social SOC 014 - Introduction to Ethnic SOC 015 - Crime, Delinquency SOC 024 - Marriage and The Family SPAN 001 - Elementary Spanish SPCH 001 - Fundamentals of Speech STAT 050 - Elementary Statistics Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: I haven't taken any yet, but I understand that I need to maximize the rest of my GenED credits with Sophia and Study.com. Any certifications or military experience? None. Budget: Preferably under $10k. I would like to take the cheapest and fastest route possible. No FAFSA. Commitments: I currently work full-time, am married with no kids, and can dedicate time to my studies part-time, in the afternoon/evenings, or on weekends. Dedicated time to study: During weekdays, I can study 6 or 7 hours in the afternoon/evenings. On the weekends, I can study as much as my schedule allows. Timeline: Ideally, I aim to finish the required courses for the degree as quickly as possible. I would like to finish within 1-1.5 years (12-18 months). Tuition assistance/reimbursement: No, my workplace does not provide tuition assistance or reimbursement. Completed Degrees: - AS-T: Administration of Justice - AA-T: Sociology - AA: Social & Behavioral - AA: Business - AS-T: Business Administration - AA-T: Economics - CSU GE Completed & Certified - Full IGETC Certified Current Occupation: Supply Chain Industry I'll be honest—I'm not proud of the associate degrees I've accumulated. I went through a prolonged period of uncertainty that ended up with me having those degrees. I struggled with anxiety during tests at a traditional school and wasn't the best student. However, I'm determined to prove to myself that I can achieve more and earn a bachelor's degree, and hopefully a masters’ as well. While I'm currently satisfied with my job, I recognize that advancing in my career will require a degree, and UMPI's flexibility is very appealing to me. Also, I apologize if any of these are confusing to read, but I am thankful for any help that I can receive. Question: Should I apply to UMPI for Fall 1 or Fall 2 and wait to confirm which courses transfer? And if they don't meet the 90-credits criteria, then begin enrolling with Sophia/Study.com, or should I go straight to Sophia/Study.com using the WIKI for the degree plan, without waiting for advice/decision from the advisor or counselor? RE: Need Help with UMPI - bjcheung77 - 06-26-2024 @havefaithandgraduate, Welcome to the board! That's a great intro post with all the info on the addendum and template, along with extra details, including those Associate degrees, 6 of them?! I believe your best option right now is to apply for the UMPI BABA PM & IS, skip the M&L, if you want, you can add a second concentration for the Supply Chain later. Basically, apply, send all transcripts, see where your credits all go for Fall 1 session, if you need more credits from Sophia.org or Study.com for max transfer, you can delay your start for Fall 2, the most important thing is to get an academic evaluation with yellow highlights indicating what's missing for the degree. Hello BJ, Thank you for taking the time to explain the process and details to me. I will follow your advice and apply to UMPI as soon as possible. I may have more questions for you in the future, but once again, thank you so much for your advice. I truly appreciate it! RE: Need Help with UMPI - bjcheung77 - 06-26-2024 havefaithandgraduate Wrote:Hi BJ, It really depends on the student, some would do the BABA M&L, others would do the PM&IS, and then there are the ones who would do the other concentrations available, such as Supply Chain. My recommendation for PM&IS is because, the BABA M&L would be redundant if you go for the MAOL later, PM&IS or Supply Chain should technically be the same in ease or speed to finish. Check the WIKI to see which suits you: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:UMPI With the budget, dedicated time to study, and timeline, you should be able to complete the BABA & MAOL within one year. I suggest trying to pace yourself in completing the BABA in two sessions and the MAOL in another two sessions, it's possible as you're going to be taking 3 classes at the BABA level and it'll be transferred to the MAOL, dropping the required classes from 12 to 9 for the MAOL. More info on the UMPI WIKI here: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/University_of_Maine_at_Presque_Isle RE: Need Help with UMPI - LevelUP - 06-27-2024 I would suggest making a spreadsheet and taking a guess where all the credits will land. You can start by taking the courses you know you need. RE: Need Help with UMPI - Kjnova - 06-27-2024 I count 35 classes, or 105 credits. Not that this is a direct comparison, but I had about 120 credits at my old college when I transferred in, and I got credit for 101 hours. Just to give some idea of how it might go. That was from a large state university, but I don't see why that would matter as long as yours were from an accredited college. You have some good business classes on the list. For the BABA with Management/Leadership concentration, I think Sophia has classes that will cover six of them (though you already have some of those) and Study.com has classes that will cover five of them. From recent experience, i will definitely say to start with Sophia. Cheaper, easier, faster. Then SDC. You may realistically be able to get down to around 10 classes, which is the residency minimum anyway. Good luck! |
