help finishing CS BA - rensuki - 05-22-2024 Hi guys, so I had my phone evaluation with tesu advisor Josh today as I thought I was finishing my last CS/capstone course and being a student since 2018 I guess I made the mistake following posts like https://i.imgur.com/5siSXGN.png that were pre 2021 before the 90 credit policy change... anyway accepting that it's my fault and moving forward to summarize the phone call Josh said to take college courses: "Two (2) Upper-Level Computer Science Electives tesu or state college operating or information systems CIS SOFTWARE ENGINEERING COS OPERATING SYSTEMS OR CMP NET TECHNOLOGY Four (4) Free Electives community college any subject any level Liberal Arts Capstone (LIB-4950) " My questions are should I finish my SDC software engi/system analysis courses anyway(i only have sys analysis exam left) and do 6 easier electives at a community college? Josh kept trying to push doing 2 UL cs courses through tesu. And my second question is recommendations on where to take those 4-6 electives. (is a transfer from SDC to a community college transcript then back to Tesu a workaround?) I'd prefer a self paced online course to finish asap. The residency fee isn't an issue to me at this point. My current spreadsheet(I shouldve been well over electives required and finishing my last capstone/sdc system analysis) : I am reading through https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-TESU-Transfer-Policy-Explained and I do recognize now the policy change. RE: help finishing CS BA - allvia - 05-22-2024 If you're in need of RA credits it is almost always easier and cheaper to get LLs - even if you replace some if your existing courses. Since you appear to have open electives, then most certainly get those in RA form. You can use TECEPs or other options such as CCs - here is the wiki for suggestions - https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sources_of_Credit RE: help finishing CS BA - davewill - 05-22-2024 No, there's no way to "wash" alt credit through another school to get around the 90 credit limit. Your most cost effective choices are going to be either to take RA courses at a community college, ASU online, or some other RA source, or to do a full time/fixed price term at TESU to get enough TESU credits to avoid the residency waiver fee. In the second case, it might make sense to take your CS electives at TESU and get real grades for them. RE: help finishing CS BA - bjcheung77 - 05-22-2024 @rensuki, you are already there at the finish line with the capstone left! There really isn't much info to go by, but just enough to solve the issue at hand! You max your alternative credit, thus your best option is to do the TECEPs for easy 100 level classes if you want to finish fast, otherwise the community college option is next on the list for 4 classes. Your only other thread is here in regards to Study.com proctoring time from a couple weeks ago: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-3-weeks-waiting-on-SDC-proctor Having said all that, I don't see what RA credits you have are (since you didn't do the addendum or template over the years or the previous thread), I see a rough 'budget' since you're willing to pay the residency waiver to get things done faster, so that would be the capstone and the remaining costs to the credits, plus the residency fee. Capstone $1635, 4 TECEPS $624, Residency fee $3354, grad fee $298, total: $5911, roughly $6K with a bit to spare in case you don't go the TECEP option. Before I give you my hacks and your options, you really need to fill in the addendum and template, there are a few variables I want to make sure of, such as your commitments, time to study, etc, without knowing these items, I won't know if the hack will work for you as I can't gauge how you can get these done accordingly. You need to help us help you by giving more details, promptly... There are two options and these are your best choices for max ROI/Value and go towards the trifecta of certs, degree, experience. RE: help finishing CS BA - rensuki - 05-22-2024 Also to be clear I already completed saylor software engineering and was waiting for it to be evaluated, and for systems I only have the study.com exam left that is impossible to fail. I guess from the phone call I wasn't sure if " tesu or state college " was referring to the UL or if there was actually a state or tesu requirement I was missing. Maybe I wasn't clear enough to the advisor that I had actually already finished those 2 UL CS courses and not starting fresh. So it sounds like I should go ahead with SDC systems analysis final exam then do 6 free electives at a "community college" or equivalent? I'll email and confirm with my advisor Josh right now. Update: "Recalling our meeting, students are permitted to apply a maximum of 90 noncollegiate credit hours. In which case, you have already met this maximum and no additional noncollegiate courses can be applied to your account if you would like to swap out two (currently applied) noncollegiate courses for the aforementioned study.com computer courses, we can remove two existing/applied noncollegiate courses from the Free Electives section when your en route transcript is received and processed." So that's a yes? I will be reviewing the wiki for fast RA credits, and self paced community college credits. You need more RA credit, but it doesn't have to be TESU or state college. Those were just examples the advisor was using. You can take ANY RA credit to make the goal. You could take the UL courses that you have left, or you can take those as alt credit, then replace some of your current alt credit with some RA courses. Those replacement courses could be electives, GenEd, or anything really. You could even use a PE course from your local community college, I did. One of the nice things about the TESU BA degrees are that they have a lot of free electives, so it's easy to slot in random credits. RE: help finishing CS BA - rensuki - 05-22-2024 Thanks for the replies, I haven't taken a tecep but now that I know that it applies to RA I will be looking into it. Not having to do the 2 UL CS courses though tesu is a relief. I will be reviewing the wiki for fast RA credits, and self paced community college credits. 6 free electives should be manageable, just figuring out the most efficient way to go about that. I am currently reviewing https://www.jsu.edu/tryit/ , outlier, ect. Any other recommendations for RA would be greatly appreciated. edx wasnt terrible but kinda overpriced. RE: help finishing CS BA - bjcheung77 - 05-22-2024 @rensuki, Great stuff, you're going the TECEP route... Did you get a chance to take a look at post #4 and the addendum/template, or anything else I mentioned? a "Set Budget", commitments, kids, study habits, especially a 'time line' you want to get this done, etc. We don't need a novel about yourself, just very compact and concise answers to picture your situation... Depending on your previous studies, do you already hold an associates from anywhere? RE: help finishing CS BA - rensuki - 05-23-2024 Capstone Advice: So I am signing up for the liberal arts capstone(computer science) and I am a litte confused by this wording as I only see the following courses: "...LIB-4950-OL003 - This course section is for BA students with a major area of study or liberal arts concentration in Biology, Environmental Studies, Mathematics and Computer Science... " I am assuming I can sign up for any of the courses. +Does anyone have advice on which instructor to go with? judging from ratemyprofessor it seems Gregory Caicco is the choice to go with for OL since Dan Wiley is full. |
