Help With My Major - thatbrian - 07-22-2008 I want to enroll in TESC in about a month, but before I do, I really would like to have a major in mind that is doable through testing. Can't do a lab otherwise I would go for a Psyc degree. Would Social Sciences work? Liberal Studies is a fallback. BTW, my major is not terribly important, I just need a degree at this point. Thanks, Brian Help With My Major - mlwilliamsiv - 07-22-2008 Hello Brian! To be honest with you, in the end, only YOU can decide what you want to major in. Anybody can throw some suggestions your way (including me) but that would still require us to know what your likes and dislikes are and what your interests are. However, since you said that "you just need a degree at this point," I would try shooting for a BA degree. There is a whole host of options available to you under this umbrella. I myself am majoring in Communications, which might be something you're interested in. There is also Social Sciences, History, Sociology, English, and et cetera. Look at page 47 in the TESC college catalog (the page maybe different in the online catalog.) Most of the core requirements for any "area of study" will more than likely be 33 credits. So you should be able to "test out" of at least 87 credits, which will only leave you with your core credits remaining. I see that you have FEMA courses in your upcoming list which is great. A great way to earn 27 credits for your FREE ELECTIVES category...and it's all free!!! Now depending on what you choose for your "area of study," it's possible that some of the courses you need for this category may also be able to be taken by exams also. For instance, in my degree I can also take DSST Public Speaking and DSST Technical Writing for my core requirements. Which would give me 93 credits through testing alone. I would still need to take about 9 classes for the remaining 27 credits though. In summary, I would suggest you browse through all the "areas of study" that you might be interested in and look at the core requirements. Look for the courses in the list that you might be able to test out of. Whichever area of study allows you the most "testable" credits...go for that one. Since you said you just need a degree at this point. That's all I have for now, if there is anything else that you need, you know what to do! Peace be with you always. Good luck on your educational journey. From a loyal degree seeker, Marshall Help With My Major - thatbrian - 07-22-2008 Thanks Marshall, Since I just need the parchment, the most important factor= time=testing out. I'm just not familiar with which test would count for which courses. Is there a master list of test to course/degree for the big 3? If not it would be great to start one here. Brian |
