TAMUC BAAS in OL is done. Next up, Masters! - HoustonGuy - 04-26-2024

Good morning,

I couldn't be happier that I found this forum a little over a year ago.  In the last year i've been able to take the 24 credits I had completed at my local community college along with almost every Sophia class they offer to complete an AAS at Pierpont C&TC and, as of this morning, I completed all coursework for a BAAS in Organizational Leadership from Texas A&M University - Commerce.  I can't wait until that degree is conferred so I can put it on my resume and update my credentials at work!

It's been a lot of work, but it's achievable.  I completed my final 39 credits in 3 7-week terms, all reimbursed by my employer.

Now, i'm trying to to figure out what I want to do next.  I have 25 years of experience in IT and would like to move into a management role at my current employer.  I'm trying to decide between an MBA in IT or a MS in IT Leadership from WGU, which I'm hoping to be able to grind at it and complete in one term.  Alternatively, i'm also considering a MS in Biomedical Informatics from UT Health Houston.  This would take a bit longer and wouldn't necessarily increase my management potential, but is a solid credential.

Either way, i'll be busy in June and July so i'm hoping to start the program in the fall.

@HoustonGuy, Congrats on getting this done and in the bag! It won't really matter which choice you take for WGU as they're an endorsed institution for the state of TX! Check the course list and see what classes interest you most in both programs, select the one that most aligns with what you want to study...

Congrats!!! Since you have a technical background, I would lean towards the MS at WGU or the UT Masters. To me those hold more weight than the WGU MBA (just my opinion) whatever you do will be fine. I have the WGU MSML and was able to finish it in one term after the TAMUC degree. I am now doing a PhD but had research a MBA at UTPB because I wanted the 'UT' brand.

I'd think the the WGU MBA-IT hits the widest mark at a low cost, likely giving it an excellent ROI.
