Metropolia for quick bachelor's degree to get in a master's program - klicer - 03-20-2024 Your Location: Estonian living in Finland Your Age: 19 What kind of degree do you want?: Fast bachelor's degree in IT/CS with the goal of getting in Helsinki/Aalto university MSc Computer Science. I have the advantage of living in Finland, so Metropolia UAS seems like a no-brainer. My goal is to fly through UAS, and hopefully get into one of our top school's master's programs. Getting into a master's program after that might be a piece of cake, they have a lot of room, because many people drop out of our universities after getting their bachelor's? I'm looking at this Metropolia UAS program specifically: Degree Programme of Information Technology - online studies 180 ECTS (price 579 euros) I have years of coding in my background, and run a small software business, so I don't expect any difficulty with the actual studying part. There is a job experience/internship requirement, which I might be able to do through my own company. Does anyone have experiences with Metropolia UAS, how did it go? Does this sound realistic with some hard work and dedication? EDIT: ADDENDUM Budget: I can shill out 5k€ if necessary for papers, but I prefer to go the cheapest route. Metropolia should cost 579€ and nothing more? Commitments: I am my own boss, and have no other commitments outside of that. Running my business doesn't necessarily have to take a lot of time commitment. Dedicated time to study: I can do 40+ hour weeks, if that's what it takes. I'm already starting off from a strong knowledge level, but I also love learning new things and filling all my gaps. My main goal is getting bachelor's papers ASAP. Afterwards I'd like to try my luck at applying to highly regarded master's CS programs, such as University of Helsinki. Timeline: I would like to finish the bachelor degree in 1-1.5 years Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I am an EU citizen, otherwise paying out of pocket. Without knowing your commitments, study habits, etc asked for on the addendum, it's hard to gauge how well you do, or how realistic anything is. My suggestion at the moment is to complete the addendum, review posts and WIKI on Metropolia. Others will further chime in... I've updated my post now to add an addendum. Cheers RE: Metropolia for quick bachelor's degree to get in a master's program - bjcheung77 - 03-20-2024 Cool, yes, I suggest following the WIKI and other threads to get the 579 Metropolia deal, then complete the final year with them. My suggestion is to apply to the institutions of choice at your local area or country, if you can't get in for some reason, then you can apply to any UK/US institutions that will accept your Metropolia degree as entry into their Masters. There are plenty that are either UK Top Up Masters or US Applied Computer Science Masters, some that don't even require many prerequisites... RE: Metropolia for quick bachelor's degree to get in a master's program - Tomas - 03-20-2024 Your plan sounds realistic, it shall be possible to pass first 3 years very quickly especially if you are in IT field already. No idea (timewise) about the final year though. Not sure about getting into masters in Finland being piece of cake, it doesnt depend much on people dropping, but mostly how many places are opened (I have seen this number published for Metropolia, but not number of applicants nor what the acceptance ratio was). Good to confirm, that's what I was looking for. Our university degrees actually work in a way, where you apply for bachelor's and master's degrees (3y+2y) together. It should mean lots of spots open up for master's, because some people drop out after their bachelor's, atleast that's what I've heard ?. I'll look into more master's options, really want that CS on my CV (rather than IT). It seems like doing my master's in the US could entitle me to a J1 visa, which would let me skip the H1B process for a while? My goal would be to find work in the USA |
