Do you have to be at least 20 years old for the Pierpont Governors A.A.S.? Or just at least 2 years since high school graduation?

In other words, if you graduate high school at 16 years old, could you get the A.A.S. at 18 years old?

This degree program is open to any student who has graduated from high school two or more years prior; students who earned a High School Equivalency Exam Certificate are welcome to enroll if their assigned graduating class has been out of high school two years or more.

I wonder if the individual mentioned in the Alumni Spotlight is a forum member... UMPI Bachelors in 6 months

Dirk Sommers
Board of Governors A.A.S. Graduate – Class of 2022

Dirk Sommers, a first-generation college graduate, is a 2022 Board of Governors program alumnus. Six months after graduting from Pierpont, Sommers will be receiving a bachelor’s degree in project management from University of Maine at Presque Isle in May.

“I had coaches always tell me, ‘whether you think you can or you cannot.. you’re right.’ I didn’t think I could, but Pierpont and Nancy Parks (Associate Provost, Student Services) taught me that I could.

Pierpont will teach you that you can do it – you can get the degree, you can succeed and go other places – further than you might have ever seen yourself going.”

Nancy informed me that students can now enroll as soon as 1 year after high school completion. I am not sure if you can also graduate from Pierpont at that time, or if you have to wait 2 years from high school completion in order to graduate with your Associates degree.

Pierpont AAS GPA - homeschoolmom1 - 02-19-2024

Is there a GPA for the AAS? If you send in all of the required credits, will your GPA be based on the graded RA credit(s)?

RE: Pierpont AAS GPA - CenterSquarEd - 02-19-2024

Yep, that’s how it works. And they count Ds too (except in English courses), which is good for degree completion despite the negatives for GPA.

RE: Pierpont AAS GPA - LevelUP - 02-19-2024

If all you have is the ASU course, then your GPA is whatever grade you get on that course.  Keep in mind you can retake ASU courses for a higher GPA.

For graduation... It should be anytime after the application/entry date, graduation would be one of 3 semesters after applying. Basically, for individuals on the forums, they'll transfer as many ACE credits as possible and only take the 1 credit option at ASU, unless of course, they have RA credits elsewhere already (dual enrollment).

RE: Pierpont AAS GPA - bjcheung77 - 02-19-2024

Last and most importantly, this is an external cumulative GPA, it's not an internal GPA as you did not take classes at Pierpont.
