What have I done! Bio 105 - OldLadyScholar - 02-04-2024
So, I am currently taking Bio 105. I know, I know... I have read everything after doing so. I just started on 1/29, but I haven't gotten passed Milestone 1 now. I thought this would be easy because I work in a high school and have pushed into several Biology classes (we have even done the owl pellet dissection). But I am worried that I won't have the time to finish. My Milestone 1 has been returned twice. I'm also concerned about this pictures of 10 animals part. I live in southern California and you don't want to be taking pictures of the animals around here, you want to run... (coyotes, skunks, rattlesnakes, mountain lions, lizards...). Any helpful advice? Not sure I can drop this class and do Sophia... I was also willing to take this class because my employer will pay a stipend the more credits I earn, but only from regionally accredited universities, not something like Sophia.

You can withdraw from the course and take Human Biology with Lab from Sophia. Your sanity will thank you! Seriously this is the best thing to do. The science classes in YourPace are a nightmare. You can add another class when you withdraw from this one. You'll most likely be able to finish multiple courses before this 1. The science classes are VERY slooooow. It's not unheard of for it take someone the entire term to complete this course.

There are some times when paying for a course is a much better deal than getting it for free/cheap/paid-for, because the paid option is dramatically faster and easier. This situation is one of those times. It's easy to get mentally anchored on the free/cheap way to earn a credit and ignore the option that would be better overall. Cut your losses while you still can.

I agree 100% with everyone. I would ditch 105, take the W and pay the $79 w/coupon to get Sophia bio & lab done in a week. Maybe see if there are any other GECs or other transferables you can do during the month's subscription.

Ouch, you should take the loss and go the Sophia.org route to get your credits. Usually, you want to max your transfer credits before starting at UMPI.

UPDATE: March 3, 2024
I have finished Bio 105! Some of the milestones were tough. But overall after the Owl Pellet dissection everything else went okay. (I have a weak stomach but got through the owl pellet just fine.) I decided to stick it out because I work in a high school and have pushed in Biology class many times, so it wasn't like I had no prior knowledge.
