UMPI BABA PM&IS Degree Plan Help (Advice) - 4KJB - 01-14-2024 Your Location: Florida, United States Your Age: 29 What kind of degree do you want?: UMPI’s BABA PM&IS Current Regional Accredited Credits: Irvine Valley College Total Credits: 27 Intro to Fine Arts (FA 27), 3, B Intro to Humanities (HUM 1), 3, A World Civil to 1500 (HIST 1), 3, A Communication Fundamentals (SP 1), 3, B Intro to Psychology (PSYC 1), 3, C American Government (PS 1), 3, B Intro to Sociology (SOC 1), 3, B General Astronomy (ASTR 20), 3, B World Civil/1500 (HIST 2), 3, C Introductory Economic (ECON 20), 3, C Music Appreciation (MUS 20), 3, A Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: Sophia Learning Total Credits: 28 Intro to Ethics, 3, 95% or A Human Biology, 3, 95% or A Human Biology Lab, 1, 90% or A Introduction to Nutrition, 3, 95% or A Spanish 1, 3, 95% or A Macroeconomics, 3, 95% or A Microeconomics, 3, 95% or A Introduction to Information Technology, 3, 95% or A Introduction to Python Programming, 3, 95% or A Introduction to Web Development, 3, 95% or A CLEP Total Credits: 6 College Composition, 6, 80% or B Any certifications or military experience? None Budget: I have $7K saved up but cost shouldn’t be an issue. I’d prefer to go the most “efficient” route as possible, while saving as much money (cheapest) too. Spending money is okay if it’s worth it. Commitments: None, will be putting all my time and effort into the degree and applying to internships/jobs. Dedicated time to study: I will study as much as possible without burning out. I estimate I can do 10 hours on average every day per week, so a total of 70 hours per week since I’m not going to be working. Timeline: Finish as soon as I can (no rush) but I could pace myself to maintain financial aid and continue to apply for internships/jobs. Any time I’m not using on studying or for school, I’ll be working on projects to improve my resume. Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I qualify for a full Federal Pell Grant from FASFA so I expect most or all to be covered as long as I maintain my class schedule. Testing preference: I actually love taking tests so no preference towards having an exam or not. Either are great for me. I’m set on attending UMPI after doing research for a few weeks. My plan is to complete the BABA PM&IS degree: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UMPI_BABA_Project_Management_Degree_Plan Here is a breakdown how I currently believe I’m satisfying the requirements: GE Requirements 1A: CLEP - College Composition 1B: CLEP - College Composition 1C: IVC - American Government 1D: CLEP - College Composition 2A: IVC - Intro to Psychology 2B: IVC - Intro to Psychology 2C: CLEP - College Composition 2D: 2E: IVC - Intro to Fine Arts 3A: 3B: 3C: SOPHIA - Human Biology 3D: IVC - General Astronomy 3E: SOPHIA - Human Biology Lab 4A: 4B: CLEP - College Composition 4C: SOPHIA - Intro to Ethics 5A: IVC - Intro to Sociology 5B: IVC - World Civ to 1500 5C: SOPHIA - Spanish 1 5D: SOPHIA - Intro to Ethics 5E: IVC - American Government Business Administration Major Requirements BUS 101: Probably Sophia BUS 150: Probably Sophia BUS 200: UMPI BUS 220: ???? BUS 244: ???? BUS 325: UMPI BUS 353: ???? BUS 440: ???? BUS 469: UMPI ECO 207: SOPHIA - Macroeconomics & Microeconomics MAT 140: ???? PCJ 215/COM 210: ???? Project Management & Information Systems Concentration Requirements BUS 141: Don’t do Sophia? BUS 240: ???? BUS 343: UMPI BUS 345: ???? BUS 359: UMPI BUS 400: ???? BUS 415: ???? BUS 245: ???? BUS 401: UMPI I had degree plan questions as I’m nearing the end of finishing up these courses. Questions: 1) What would be the best 10 remaining courses to take at UMPI for BABA PM&IS? What would you recommend I save? Any advice on what would be your recommended 10, based on what you have heard or from personal experience? I’m trying to figure out which remaining Sophia, SDC, or Coursera courses I should take. 2) How exactly does UL work? Also, in context with the BABA PM&IS? I’ve seen conflicting information on how many UL is actually required on the forums and the wiki doesn’t exactly say. I found this in the 2023-24 catalog: “All four-year degree candidates must complete at least 30 credit hours of study through UMPI in order to receive a baccalaureate degree. At least 12 of these credits must be in the major and at least 9 of these 12 must be at the upper level (300-level or above).” http://catalog.umpi.edu/content.php?catoid=6&navoid=241&hl=upper+level&returnto=search My current interpretation is: 30 Total Credits at UMPI 12 Credits in BA (major) 9 UL (300 or higher) in BA (major) 12 Credits in PM&IS (minor) 9 UL (300 or higher) in PM&IS (minor) 3) Do minors/concentrations have a lower UL or credit requirement than majors? GE Questions: 4) Is there a maximum I can have duplicates for? For example, I have CLEP - College Composition satisfying 5 GE requirements (1A, 1B, 1D, 2C, 4B). I understand that I need 40 total hours of credits. 5) Does Sophia’s Visual Communication currently satisfy 2D? Double checking that it does from other people. 6) Which course should I take for Business Math (MAT 140) as a Business Administration Major? SDC? Sophia - Calculus? How easy is MAT 140 at UMPI? I understand that Business Math satisfies 3A, 3B, and MAT 140. I’ve heard some rumblings that you can take Sophia Calculus but there is nothing on the transfer equivalancy page of UM. I don’t mind having to take Calculus to save some money but SDC is cool as well. If MAT 140 is really that easy at UMPI that I can just take it quickly, I don’t mind that either. Mostly just need a recommendation on the most efficient route, I’m confident in doing any math. 7) Should I take Sophia’s Student Success (1 credit) to satisfy 4A? Major Questions: 8) Should I take BUS 101 and BUS 150 at Sophia? (Intro to Business/Accounting) I believe this is an easy yes but I wanted to double check there isn’t a reason to save it for UMPI. 9) Are there any recommended SDC courses instead of taking them at UMPI? 10) In general, what courses are recommended to save for UMPI? 11) Should I take Sophia’s Business Ethics or IBM’s Data Analyst Professional Certificate (IBM 0018)? Which one? Take none? If I’m correct, I would have 6 UL credits with BUS 469, BUS 325. That should mean I could take one of the options above and leave the other at UMPI. 12) What is the deal with PCJ 215? Which seems like it’s now called “COM210? How should I satisfy that requirement? Is it possible to take a class from Sophia or SDC to satisfy this requirement. 13) I heard it is recommended to take BUS 141 at UMPI instead of Sophia’s Project Management. Is that still the case? I read that since BUS 400/BUS 401 require the template from BUS 141, I should just save this for UMPI. 14) I was planning to take the Coursera courses for this degree path, as it seems beneficial according to the wiki. Is that still recommended? According to the wiki, I should take IBM 0022, GOOG 004. Maybe GOOG 003, IBM 0018? 15) Should I take Coursera’s Google Project Management or wait for BUS 400 at UMPI to pair with BUS 401/BUS 141. Final Questions 16) I’m going to have extra time left at Sophia and assuming I personally have time to “grind” courses. Would you recommend just utilizing that time to take a bunch of easy courses to pile up more credits? 17) When you go over the 90 transfer credit cap and you have a lot of leftover credits. Do you get to determine what exactly transfers to meet your degree when you have an abundance? I’m not sure this ever matters but I was wondering if I had just a ton of general education classes from Sophia but then for some reason I wanted to take “X” class at UMPI. Could I work with them to allow me to take that specific class at UMPI without transferring everything and it being “their choice”. I think this might be a little confusing but I’m basically wondering if I need to tiptoe around these requirements to make sure I’m not taking too many courses. I didn’t expect this to be 17 questions but I’ve had a bunch of questions over the last few weeks. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated, I’ve been lurking for some time and I’m so happy to have found this forum. Thanks for taking the time to read this! RE: UMPI BABA PM&IS Degree Plan Help (Advice) - bjcheung77 - 01-18-2024 @4KJB, Welcome to the board, you've got the addendum and template, plus the additional questions. Wow! You're just missing the spreadsheet - please have one completed and link us to your google/one drive, make the file viewable (not editable). To keep it brief and simple, you should take the 10 classes that can't be transferred in from the WIKI, if there are less than those 10 classes and you need to add a few more, do the 3-4 classes that can transfer to the MAOL as well (even if it duplicates the credits transferred previously through Coursera Certs or Sophia.org classes). 123, Again, the spreadsheet and info above. UMPI requires 30 credits residency, I would do all UL from them, all in the major/minor and in the electives. You can decide the missing ones that can't transfer over from reviewing your spreadsheet, you'll have a visual on what is missing and required, plus can go towards the MAOL later. 4567, Don't deviate from the WIKI template, I would take all the math you can for your free electives. People going COSC/UMPI get confused on the multiple requirements where a class can hit, I always go for the number of classes required in addition to that, make sure you have a total of 40 classes and you reach over 120 credits. 8-15, Again, do the trifecta of certs, degree, experience by following the WIKI, take all the Coursera Certs, Sophia.org, and then UMPI 3-4 classes that will duplicate your previous 3 classes, these 3 are used for exemption/transfer into the MAOL, these can't be transferred in, and will also hit your 30 credit residency requirements. 16-17, if you have the energy, money, time, take as many cheapies/freebies on Coursera and Sohpia.org, even if it doesn't hit your degree requirements, this is to max your trifecta and get more ROI/Value in your education, fill knowledge and learning gaps, plus these are on your transcript for future entry requirements for grad school. These are the 4 classes you need to take towards the MAOL exemption, when you link us to your one/google drive file, make sure to indicate to take these at UMPI and it'll be part of the residency requirements, even though Coursera/Sophia has two of them completed: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-10-courses-in-10-days?pid=400861#pid400861 |
