TESU BA.CS , how to graduate fast ? - eap35 - 01-10-2024
Hey everyone,
I have just been admitted to TESU bachelor of Arts in Computer Science program. Transferring 32 credits has given me a head start on my educational journey, and I am now eager to graduate as quickly as possible. My goal is to leave one semester open for an internship to gain real world experience and enhance my skills in the field. I would love to hear from those who have been through similar experiences or have valuable insights. If you have any recommendations on navigating the TESU BA.CS program efficiently, please share them with me. AS FAR AS DUAL degrees go, if I have some options to stack 2 degrees with somewhat minimal effort I will do it.. but I'm not familiar with the process.
I would love to be taking most exams//tests to graduate but one of my goals is to test out of most while still, intentionally, leaving some unfinished classes so I can apply for internships. After that, I will just grad 3 months post internships. Classes that transferred have pretty good GPA, not sure how it transfers to TESU, ideally I'm shooting for close to perfect GPA because it opens up more opportunities for internships and in tech/trading jobs.
Here are my current credits with TESU :
- MAT-1210 - 3 credits - A
- CAP-1010 - 4 credits - A
- ENC-1010 - 3 credits - A
- PSY-1010 - 3 credits - A

@eap35, Welcome to the board, it's a good introduction post, you're great at asking questions, but you're missing all the important information on the addendum and template, it's best to provide a greater overview of your situation and not just a brief intro without much info for us to help you further. Side Note: Take your time reading posts, threads, and the WIKI, especially links on my signature as they are the 'basics links' people should review. There are plans on the WIKI for TESU BACS, I would recommend creating a spreadsheet, updating the info on it then link us to your google/one drive, making the file viewable (not editable), we can then advise any potential changes that may need to be made...

Thank you for reaching back, I will update to the template again. Can I still just post the template and get suggestions from the community or I have to make the spreadsheet with all the classes that are left to take, in this case ( 88 credits )

You can post the addendum/template first, the spreadsheet should come later as you will want to use that for reference and tracking purposes, you can get the details from the WIKI here, you may want to see if the BACS/BSBA CIS combo would do if you have extra energy, money, time to spend on a few more classes, but I would focus on the BACS first: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:TESU

What kind of degree do you want?: Computer science degree ( BA or BS ) wouldn't mind stacking it with another degree if it's somewhat minimal effort.
Current Regional Accredited Credits: none
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: French 1+2, Calculus
Any certifications or military experience?: non
Budget: Not set yet, but ideally as low as possible, as long as it allows me to get ''some classes'' in order to apply to internships, then go back to school to graduate.
Commitments: 35h per week job, no kids.
Dedicated time to study: 20-30hours a week.
Timeline: ~2/3 months semester -->3 months internship --> 2/3 months last semester = ~9 months to graduate, 6 months of which is non internship related
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: out of pocket, but open to suggestions for any help.

Of course everyone's situation is different and you might have friends or family in the industry, bur a more realistic timeline for getting CS work would be about 3 years, not 9 months.
TESU is generally for folks who are already in the industry and need that degree for career advancement, internship opportunities for newbie students are not a priority as TESU is not even on Handshake. Plus the CS market had become so saturated. The son of my co-worker studies CS at Texas A&M couldn't even land an internship last summer after about 50 applications.
TESU BACS is a great first step but I think you need a MSCS or MSIT with industry certifications to make you more competitive in this cooling CS job market. All in all 6-12 months for TESU and 2-2.5 years for a MSCS or MSIT adding up to about 3 years. Hopefully hiring would pick back up then.
