CLEP Humanities or Dantes Ethics? - gardenia64 - 07-14-2008

I'm a new subscriber and have been amazed at the resources and support available here! I am a student at a local "regular" college, but needed to fulfill their grad requirements with a few extra credits. One was the Intro to World Religions exam, which I took on Saturday. I used IC and some of the links posted on the specific exam section and feel confident that I passed. It was the paper and pencil version, so I won't know for sure for a while, though.
Anyway, I only need four more credits to graduate with a BS in Human Services. Of the four credits needed, three are required to be Interdisciplinary of which the Humanities or Ethics would qualify. I looked at both of the flashcards and both look intimidating to me. If I take the CLEP, it would knock out the 4 credits I need since it counts for six credits. If I take the Dantes, then I would still need one more elective credit. My school charges $60 for the FEMA credits. So, it would be cheaper to take the CLEP, but I'm scared! Any words of advice or wisdom? Which is easier and would require less commitment to time for study? Sad

Personally, I found Humanities easier than Ethics. Humanities is broad but it's not very deep. I think that IC is enough to pass it. Don't be scared of it....just plan enough study time for it. Ethics, on the other hand, was ANNOYING. It was obscure and vague.

You could always try the CLEP and if you don't pass, opt for Ethics as Plan B.

I'm the oposite of studyhard in that I found the Ethics test to be easier, but as Humanities would fulfill your needs better I would take it. It's not a very deep exam and the IC cards were enough for me to pass with a 63, though I had no background on the subject matter.

take the clep humanities, I used IC and Cracking the Clep book, passed it without any prior humanities knowledge.

Thanks for the input! I think I will go for attempting Humanities first since it would wipe out all of the credits I need. If it doesn't go well, then I will decide to either take it again, or try Ethics. I hope it doesn't get to that point, though. I appreciate your opinions immensely. It helps hearing from those that have experienced it. It's good to know that it is manageable.
