DANTES going virtual... - bxwhitse - 06-02-2006

I didn't see where anyone else had posted about this, so I thought I'd share the news: Prometric is running a pilot Dantes internet based testing program at select sites accross the country. Today I took Organizational Behavior on-line, at Tidewater Community College in Norfolk, VA, and the interface was about like CLEP tests are. You can mark questions for review, then at anytime during the exam or at the end you can go back and review them. And getting that score at the end was AWESOME. According to the proctor the following exams are also available through them, with others becoming available later:

Criminal Justice
Drug and Alcohol Abuse
Environment and Humanity
Here's to Your Health
Intro to World Religions
Intro to Business
Principals of Financial Accounting

Do they have any more information about it anywhere? I'm quite interested.

Wow.. DANTES is moving into the 90's.. I must say Prometric confuses the heck out of me. They oversee this program but don't proctor at their own sites. They do IT testing (Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, ect), but only use third party proctors instead of any of their own sites, and then they have the Prometric Internet based tests, yet another option that (at least for the ones I've taken) are also not done at Prometric testing centers.

Now that I'm done with the rant. This is great news, I only wish it had happened sooner!

I just took a DANTES today, and while there I requested two other exams. The testing director said some of the exams are available "online". One of the ones I requested, Management Information Systems, is online... the other, Drug & Alcohol Abuse, is not. I didn't give it much thought at the time, now it makes sense.

EDIT: MIS was NOT online.

How do I find out if the on-line testing is being offered at my facility (University of Houston)?

I assume the wouldn't be. I guess I'll find out next week when I take mine. It will be great if/when they expand this to all exams. This way, no waiting for the test center to order the exam booklet.

I also wonder if the score is given immediately, as with CLEPs.

I don't understand why they haven't moved on this sooner. After all, Thomson Prometric, which offers DANTES, has its own testing facilites and they're computerized. In fact, they proctor ECE exams. Furthermore, why they don't OFFER the exams in their facilities is beyond me. Go figure...

Ana,

It looks like you will be our 'guinea pig' in taking the online DANTES first among us.

Please will you report back after you have taken it, to let us know what the software is like, how it works, time-limit, difficulty compared to the paper version, etc?

Good luck to you!

Thanks,
Snazzlefrag

Oops,

I must have misread bxwhitse's original post. It seems they actually did take an online exam today.

Perhaps bxwhitse is already able to answer the above questions?

I just checked with University of Houston testing center website, It look like they have not update their web site to ordaer test on line, we may have to call them by phone to book our Exam. I will call Houston test center on Monday and find out about it, also I will ask them about online report to clollege, if they still asked for $25 Fedex fee it means that they will post the result to college by mail. Once I find out I will post whatever they said.
