MBA before Bachelor's.. - Max007 - 12-04-2023
Hello all.
I'm very near finishing all coursework for my BALS @ TESU, excluding corner and capstone. However, with the additional residency waiver fee, I'm looking in the neighborhood of $6500, I believe.
I'm giving serious consideration to foregoing, just for now, my corner and capstones in lieu of an ENEB MBA.
I know, I know, ENEB. However, it would give me "street cred" with my current employer, at a substantially advantageous ROI, arguably.
I don't want to be overtly myopic in my assessment. What are the downfalls/pitfalls with going this route, other than the obvious? What is the obvious? Has anyone else done something similar? Would it be overly difficult to explain graduation date discrepancies if I complete my BALS in the same year? What If I would forego the BALS for a year or more? Is this an academic faux pas?
I would assume, albeit somewhat rare, some folks have a masters prior to, or in lieu of, a bachelors. IIRC, I believe it was forum member Michaeladsmith, that I had read at some point had a similar situation (sorry Michael, I'm not stalking mate, I swear
). I just recall reading that. I could me mistaken, of course.In any event, I always appreciate everyone's input. Thank you kindly in advance for any and all insight.

if I was you, I would do my bachelor, and then take one year or so to do that ENEB MBA. If you just do an MBA but have no bachelor degree, it may look shady. Which it is anyways. Also, there are some colleges that allow people without bachelors to do an mba, like Thunderbird for example, and that is quasi legit.

Interesting, what you can do is the ENEB MBA/Masters combo of your choice and then get it evaluated with one of the options on the WIKI, then transfer these credits into the TESU BSBA General Management degree. With the classes, you may have all the requirements completed for the BSBA and you can take the flat rate to complete the double bachelors instead of just finishing with the BALS.

How would it give you “street cred”? I would stick with the bachelor’s degree. Depending on where you live, where you work, etc., it might not have as much “cred” as you hope.

However, irrespective of institution or how it's perceived, I feel having an MBA in one's (my) repertoire, in the current state of employ, certainly wouldn't hurt matters.
You don't think being able to claim an MBA (I know some here would contest this statement) would be beneficial to one's current or future position within an organization, vs not being able to claim an MBA?

Many employers won't be impressed by an MBA from ENEB on your resume especially before a bachelor's degree. It will all look very suspicious. There are plenty of employers who want RA colleges when it comes to degrees at least in the US. One can say oh it won't ever matter, but there's really no way of knowing that for a fact.

This comment brings to mind a recertification process conducted by Medtronic, where a background check and degree verification were required. Upon completion, it was discovered that approximately 30% of the sales team had misrepresented their credentials. Consequently, several long-standing employees with over a decade of tenure were unfortunately dismissed.
Most organizations don't care about the name of your university, minus the top-tier universities; however, most organizations care about a lie.

An example I can think of right now that fits this thread is the UC-Boulder Masters on Coursera. No prior transcripts required, just sign up for the pathway and prove you can do the work. Masters with no previous college. It would not be easy to jump straight into that level of schooling, but there are plenty of people who have the ability out there.
