UK Student with 1st Year of BS complete already - jjlumc - 11-21-2023 Hi there, Here is my sorry looking current template. Will add some more context below, thanks so much for looking. Your Location: United Kingdom Your Age: 31 What kind of degree do you want?: Honestly the cheapest dirtiest route to a BA possible. Looking at TESU Liberal Studies or English Current Regional Accredited Credits: Open University: M140 - Introducing Stastics - Pass - 15.00 ECTS(European Credit Transfer System) TM111 - Introduction to IT and Computing 1 - Distinction - 15.00 ECTS TM112 - Introduction to IT and Computing 2 - Distinction - 15.00 ECTS MST124 - Essential Mathematics 1 - Pass - 15.00 ECTS Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: N/A Any certifications or military experience?: Registered Data Ethics Professional Accredited by the Open Data Institute in the UK Budget: Preferably keep under $10k Commitments: I work full time 9 - 17.30 Mon - Fri, mainly from home. Other than that not much apart from my little dog! Dedicated time to study: Estimating 24 - 27 depending on the week Timeline: Would hope to finish within 12 - 18 months Tuition assistance/reimbursement: N/A Currently enrolled in a BsC (Hons) Data Science with the Open University in the UK due to a massive change in life circumstances I have realized this is definitely not for me. I am working on a new plan which requires any bachelor's degree at all. I would just stick out Open University but this is going to cost me tens of thousands of pounds as well as a minimum of 4 years, which is really too much much money and time for me. The modules listed above are equivalent to the first year of full time study on a three year degree program in the UK. From trying to get my head round everything it looks like I would need to send these modules off to an organisation like ECE for evaluation. That all being well and good it seems to me that these should be worth around 30 credit hours, but I am wondering about applicability considering I want to change to a BA? Looking at the big 3 it seems like as an international student I am limited to TESU and Excelisior, with TESU looking like the most popular option especially given my preferred subject choice. I have learned the hard way with my current studies that anything involving math is a real struggle for me, so hopefully my previous (very painful!) studies this might alleviate the need to do anything further in these subjects. I know I need to start getting credits from places like the free credit sources and Sofia.org, but I don't want to put time into anything that wouldn't be required because of my previous study. Apologies if the above was all a bit scattered, but any advice at ALL would be super-duper welcome. this forum seems like a really awesome supportive place and am looking forward to my journey here! RE: UK Student with 1st Year of BS complete already - rachel83az - 11-21-2023 Actually, instead of TESU, I would suggest UMPI if you want the cheapest & fastest degree. But first I would suggest looking over the degree plans for the majors of both to see which one interests you more. TESU's English degree requires a couple of History courses in order to make it as cheap as possible. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sample_TESU_BA_English_Degree_Plan UMPI is a Communication/Journalism degree that happens to also have English: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UMPI_BA_English_Degree_Plan UMPI transfer credit can come entirely from Sophia and Study.com. TESU may require credit from other sources as well, including Coopersmith. Are those credits from Open University? If so, I believe that they're RA and can be sent as-is to TESU/UMPI without having to pay for a 3rd party evaluation. If they're not from Open University, you'll have to have them evaluated. They should at least cover your math requirement for either TESU or UMPI. RE: UK Student with 1st Year of BS complete already - bjcheung77 - 11-21-2023 Another option is to complete the majority of your lower level requirements for the degree of choice through Sophia.org - basically, up to 90 credits towards UMPI and up to 90 credits towards TESU as well. Having said that, you need to decide if 30 credits at UMPI would be better for you, or a 15 credit flat rate option at TESU would fit your needs. Decide on the degree as well, I was thinking you can do the Metropolia 579 Euro 3 year option and just 'finish' it there for an amazing cheap price since you're in the EU... If you then want to continue with TESU/UMPI, you can transfer those into the degree of choice. Thank you so much, I had completely missed the UMPI possibility, and the Communication/Journalism actually looks like something I would be interested in. They are indeed Open University, this is fantastic if I don't need them evaluated! Really helpful. RE Metropolia ('Finish' it hah). I will look into as well. I say I am from the UK but it is actually a bit more complicated. I am from an island that is kind of the UK and kind of it's own sovereign state so things can get a bit convoluted in regards to my EU status! But 379 sounds appealing!! RE: UK Student with 1st Year of BS complete already - bjcheung77 - 11-22-2023 That 579 Euro is an amazing deal to get 3 years worth of credits (and learning experience) under your belt from Metropolia... |
