No Budget: None. I have a college fund and a supportive family. Commitments: None. Just school/ Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed Timeline: none Tuition assistance/reimbursement: no I have been taking general classes but am ready to focus on a degree plan. I have avoided classes where I have to do a lot of writing, but not sure of the best options. Started with TESU in mind, but open to WGU or other self-paced. I don't have any RA credits. I have looked at Outlier and ASU. I tried TEL a few years ago and didn't care for it, but I was just starting out. Thank you in advance. RE: Degree plan assistance - ItsNeverTheLionsYear - 10-10-2023 Take a look at UMPI. They have self paced programs that should come out cheaper than WGU or TESU. I'd avoid getting a BALS at your age. You'll have better job prospects with a BA in something specific like History or Economics, if not a preprofessional degree like Accounting. If you have your heart set on a BALS, UMPI offers several concentrations. Out of curiosity: You're young and you have a college fund, and it doesn't look like you have a job or a kid. Why online school over a brick and mortar school? RE: Degree plan assistance - ss20ts - 10-10-2023 (10-10-2023, 09:30 AM)ItsNeverTheLionsYear Wrote: Take a look at UMPI. They have a new BA in Psychology that starts in just a couple of weeks. I agree that I would avoid a BALS and instead focus on a subject. RE: Degree plan assistance - natshar - 10-10-2023 You have a college fund and are young and have no job? Have you ever thought of taking some CLEPS/DSSTs, etc and going to a Brick and Morter School? If you planned right you could graduate in 2 years. A major like Pysch usually allows for a lot of electives. TBH I had the option to do TESU but last minute chose a B&M school instead. No regrets. I think there is a lot of learning and networking to be done on college campuses. And with pysch you can do research hands on experiments, etc. I don't know how much of a college fund you have but depending on whats nearby where you live might be able to make it work. TESU,WGU, etc are great but I don't know how useful they are for young students with limited/no job/life experience. Also I don't know your circumstances, but if possible I'd highly recommend getting a job. I learned so much from working and even just part time it made it easier to balance my studies having strtucre. I live at home on Kiawah Island in SC and really have no desire to leave. I do odd jobs like dog-sitting. My sister and boyfriend are here and also do their classes online. RE: Degree plan assistance - Duneranger - 10-10-2023 What are your goals? Psych and BLS are pretty generic. I too echo the other poster regarding BM schools. I understand not everyone wants the college experience but it only happens once and is something to consider. RE: Degree plan assistance - bjcheung77 - 10-10-2023 @HelenCook, Welcome to the board! Great stuff, you're thinking ahead, getting credits along the way, and planning on that Bachelors. I think you should do the Sophia.org courses that can ladder up to a Bachelors at most of the institutions we recommend, you want to get up to 90 credits that can transfer. I recommend creating a spreadsheet for all institutions you're interested in, have sheets for each one, and compare which would be a better fit for you. BTW, when do you turn 20? UMPI YourPace may be your choice as they're starting the BA Psych very soon... I am not sure about a career path, so I was hoping to get a generic Bachelors degree and then, if all goes well, get a Masters in something specific later. I don't really enjoy school, at all. We also travel a lot so it's important to me to have a flexible schedule. Right now I am taking Sociology 101 through ASU and Cybersecurity through TEEX. When I finish them, I will go back to Sophia and take more courses. Thank you. RE: Degree plan assistance - bjcheung77 - 10-10-2023 Exactly what I was thinking, since you're undecided on what you want to major, take alternative credit, online classes, whatever it may be to see if those interest you or not. Continue with the ASU class, TEEX Cybersecurity, you should also sign up for the Coursera/TADA offerings as well (last day of signup is end of this month), this will grant you ACE credit, and these can be placed into your electives. I suggest your main focus to be the ASU course, then even out the non proctored TADA/TEEX and other freebies you sign up for... Their programs are apparently free for SC residents up to next semester: https://www.tridenttech.edu/landing/fall22freetuition.htm |
