ungraded final after 11 days? - PineapplePen - 08-02-2023

This is my first term and I needed 12 classes to complete my degree. Just finished my last final today. WOOOOHOO! That said, there is one final that has been sitting, ungraded for 11 days. I've reached out twice about it with no response. I'm concerned about having the time to redo the final if it gets returned to me as ungraded. Is there a time frame as to when finals need to be graded like the milestones? I'm getting really nervous that it won't get graded until the last few days, or even at all before the term ends. Then I'll have to do another term just because I didn't get a failed final back early enough for a second attempt. Any insight?

IIRC, actual grades aren't actually due until something like 10 days after the last day of the session. I think most teachers usually at least give pass/no pass before then. You might want to clarify that this is what you're looking for, if you haven't already.

I guess to clarify, it's still "awaiting result." I am not looking for an actual grade, just for it to be reviewed and either returned or considered mastered. I'm wondering how long it can just be left in limbo like this as I would like the opportunity for a 2nd attempt if needed. I have had a final in a different competency returned so I could do a second attempt. All my other finals were graded within a week.

Hmm, if it was me... I would email your advisor, the professor, and whoever else you can think of to see what the hold up is... BTW, are you doing the BLS? Which concentration? It seems like you're going at a very good rate and should be able to finish in one session...

You have 23 days. You will be fine. Contact Cody regarding the issue – they're required to submit your work back within 3 business days (Mon-Fri).

Actually Cody explained to me when I inquired it's 72 hours, not 72 business hours.  Either way though 11 days is way excessive and you should involve Cody.  Cody encouraged me to reach out to him and the professor in a joint email after 72 hours including weekends.

Thank you. I cc'd the success coach in both of my emails to the professor then emailed him separately after I got no response from the professor. He basically said she takes a long time to grade and there's nothing for me to do. I really wanted to get as much as I can out of the way as early as possible because 1) I have more time in July than August to work on courses; and 2) I wanted to leave enough time for 2nd attempts if needed or any other hiccups.

Yes, BLS with management minor. At this point in my life I just needed to get something done. With the help of this forum I was able to do that. I do not have any more needed competencies to take. So once this competency moves from "active" to "completed" all of my requirements will be completed.

Cody's response when asked what I can do about it: "Nothing really - this professor does take a little time getting back to students on finals unfortunately."

Cody just told me there was nothing I can do about it and just said this professor takes a while. That was it. I cc'd Cody on both emails I sent the professor (one at 72 business hours and another sometime after that). I then sent Cody a personal email asking what to do and he said do nothing.

Have you emailed your professor to let them know that your Final Assessment is waiting for grading? If you have, email both Jessica and Cody so they are aware of the situation and will try to contact the professor. The professor maybe on vacation as it is summer. This delay won't require you to spend an additional session at UMPI unless you fail the course. If you submit a Rough Draft and made the requested changes, then you should be fine. Grades aren't posted right away and you won't see them until the session is over. They are due 7 days after the session ends.

Would it happen to be Dorsey or Matthews? I had to prompt both of them for grading but they did it eventually. Dorsey is particularly busy right now.
The only time I really had an issue with something I cc’d the director of yourpace Susan Chang susan.chang@maine.edu and my issue was resolved within hours on a Saturday.

Hahaha yes, it's Dorsey. Maybe I've now sent her 3 emails, so maybe I'll email a 4th time and cc the director. Thank you.
