BAS Question - klone - 07-05-2023
I have an AAS from a regionally accredited university; however, I do not have 40 technical credits. Am I eligible or is 40 technical credits a requirement for AAS holders too?

from what I was told when I asked Jessica, you have to have 40 Technical credits as well as the AAS. They go hand and hand. I have an AAS from Pierpont and was hoping to jump into the BAS but unfortunately, I don't have 40 technical credits. Most of my AAS credits are in business.

You can get 40 technical credits through Coursera/TADA and Sophia/TEEX.

Thank you for sharing - this is a great resource! It's notable that TEEX plus the Google IT Support certificate add up to 40 credits. I also hadn't considered before that Sophia is now up to 16 credits in IT courses.

It really depends, you need to 'copy/paste' the names of the courses at least so we know what the course is about. Specifically, ask yourself and your advisor, are these 'technical' in nature. If it's all business, logistics, supply chain management courses, then no. If it's Trades/Technical, or Transportation Systems Technology, you most likely would get a favorable response... You'll get a better answer if you have the course content (syllabus) that actually indicates these are technical courses in nature and not just an arts/science or business class with a Transportation component.

For me it wouldn't have been worth it, I have to take 30 credits with UMPI, I already have 80, means I would have had to go get some more credits, then come back and still take the 30. It would just be easier to take the 30 for BLS in my scenario so I said forget it lol

Hmm, weird, for some reason I thought it was that you need the AAS and the AAS has to have 40 technical credits. So, for example, the Pierpont BOG AAS has 15 specific general education requirements, plus 45 credits for free electives. Someone taking the 40+ technical credits should be able to complete the Pierpont BOG AAS with 60 credits or a little over and gain entry into the UMPI BAS. But by looking at the previous threads and info mentioned again (closely), it seems you just need the AAS and 40+ technical credits (part of the AAS or after the award of AAS). I guess it really depends on how the student plans their courses... Edit to Add: I suggest reviewing the WIKI for these plans and customizing it to your liking.

The wiki says 12 hours must be completed in the minor at UMPI, but I transferred in enough credits within the minor to only need 9 hours in the minor and that was accepted as long as I met the 30 hours total and the right number of UL electives. I am not sure if the wiki is correct about those 12 hours or if there was an exception made in my case.
I am not sure what fields they consider technical credits. My best guess is they consider courses that are technical in nature and also not something that they offer a YourPace degree in. So someone having an AAS in business with more than 40 credits in business would not likely work.
It is still a bit of a mystery. It might help to have more than 40 credits, although only 40 are required, just in case some are not accepted as technical enough.
I was surprised they accepted my data analytics coursera work. I thought that might not be considered the same as my info tech, software development and other technical credits. Jessica confirmed that they don't have to all be in the exact same field. I told Jessica about my professional experience in this field beforehand; I don't know how subjective the rules are. It all seems rather nebulous.

30 credit hours must be taken at UMPI. Of these, a minimum of 12 credits must be in the minor
and 18 credits must be upper level. These 18 upper level credits taken at UMPI may be taken as
part of the GEC, the minor, or as elective credit.

Those are the rules posted on the wiki. If they made an exception, that is interesting.
