BigSol Degree Plan Help - UMPI YourPace - BigSol - 07-03-2023

Is there a degree plan for the UMPI bachelors degree? I’m brand new to college and i’m not sure how to determine what classes I could take at Sophia or study.com to save money and shorten the time. I have seen spreadsheets for other degrees but nothing for this one.

There are multiple plans and resources to make your own plan on the wiki: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:UMPI

@BigSol, Welcome to the board. I've split your thread into a new one... It's best to provide more details to what you're looking for by following the template and last post addendum, you should update this thread with the info here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-New-to-DegreeForum-How-this-Area-works

Basically, with more details of what you're trying to achieve as an end goal and provide details on your budget, commitments, study habits and so on. With these details, we'll know if UMPI Your Pace is suited for you or a different degree plan that allows max transfer of credits would be better.

RE: New to DegreeForum? How this Area works! - BigSol - 07-03-2023

I hope this post landed in the correct place. ?

Location: Maryland

Age: 45ish

What kind of degree do I want?: Bachelors in Psychology (UMPI) Your Pace Online

Current Regional Accredited Credits:0

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:0

Provider Total Credits: #0

NOTE: I’m interested in eventually entering the field of Chemical dependency counseling. I’m have no prior college experience and I’m not sure how to navigate the process. I’d like to utilize Sophia and study.com to knock out most of my Gen ed and electives. I’m having trouble putting a plan together that will be most efficient when it time to transfer the credits to UMPI.
I’m not sure what the 1a,2a etc. lingo or what the term UL stands for. Also unsure if I can choose any Sophia credit for an elective or if it has to meet certain criteria at UMPI. I don’t want to invest time and effort into classes that won’t count or transfer. I have two kids and money isn’t exactly flowing these days. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Sophia to UMPI Wiki page - https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UMPI_Sophia_Transfer_Equivalents. Sophia is a great low cost way to max out your credits in route to UMPI.  Considering your professional goal you may be interested in a new degree coming available later this year as part of UMPIs YourPace program, a BA in Psychology.  Here is a thread with more information to it specifically - https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-BA-in-Psychology-UMPI-YourPace

@BigSol, thanks for providing a bit of an update.  Even though you did miss the addendum with the more important details, your best bet right now is to create a spreadsheet with the links provided by allvia and rachel83az, this way, you can use it for reference and tracking purposes.  If you want, you can also update us with the details by putting that file into your one/google drive and linking us, making the file viewable and not editable.  We can comment on what courses to take and further provide advice...

It is a bit wonky how things are listed, it would be nice if there was a cross-referenced chart to show it in the opposite way - each course you need to take, and where it will fit.

Here's what to take from Sophia (easy to list for someone who has 0 credits):
English Comp I
English Comp II
US Government
Intro to Ethics
Art History I or Art History II
College Algebra
Human Biology w/Lab or Intro to Nutrition
Environmental Science or Introduction to Chemistry w/Lab
**you must take 1 lab science course, so if you take Bio w/Lab, you can then take EnvironSci or Chem w/o lab; if you take Chem w/lab then you can take Human Bio w/o lab or Nutrition
Intro to Sociology
US History I or US History II
Spanish I

Based on the Psych degree that's not YourPace, you should probably also take these:
Into to Stats
10 courses for Free Electives
then the following at Study.com
PSY 101: Intro to Psychology
PSY 107: Life Span Developmental Psychology
PSY 104: Social Psychology
PSY 106: Abnormal Psychology
There may be more that will be available, but these are the ones that work per UMPI's current plan and SDC's database.  I anticipate a couple of electives, but no idea yet if that will be the case, so I wouldn't spend a lot of time doing additional Psych courses at SDC yet.

But, you do NOT have to get a Psych degree in order to get a master's in counseling.  So you can choose any degree that you want. But if I was starting from scratch, I would probably go ahead and get the Psych degree - unless it doesn't come out by the time you're ready to get your degree, in which case choose anything.

Good luck!

There is. It's literally on https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UMPI_Sophia_Transfer_Equivalents and has been for ages. Scroll down.

That's right, I highly suggest BigSol take their time reviewing the thread and also the links within this thread for more details... If you have further questions, provide more details about your situation (as per my previous post, the addendum) and we'll try to see what needs to be done to get to that end goal or educational journey of yours... Good luck, have fun, go steady at your pace!
