Diploma Size Change? - sixdegreesandamovie - 06-09-2023 hello! I’ve been lurking on and off for years and finally created an account. After reading about student’s experience with yourpace I’ve decided to take the plunge. I’m currently completing courses on Sophia and will apply after I complete a few study.com courses. Thank you all for sharing your experiences. Anyway, my question is about the diploma. I read other users post that the UMPI diploma is small and I was looking at diploma frames and I saw that there was a note that the diploma size changed for Spring 2023 graduation students. can anyone confirm that the diplomas are different for recent grads? RE: Diploma Size Change? - bjcheung77 - 06-11-2023 @sixdegreesandamovie, Welcome to the board. It's great you're starting off with Sophia.org and then going the Study.com route for the recommended combo of courses... Which UMPI degree are you going for? Do you have a link to the specific UMPI degree you're going for? If not, you may want to review the degree plan and have a spreadsheet created for reference and tracking purposes. Yes, as per your screenshot, there has been a change when they moved to Parchment to handle distribution of the diplomas... I'm going for the BLS in Management since it seems I can finish all the management course requirements on Sophia and Study.com and then I think I would only need to satisfy the 30 credit hour residency requirement with any available electives? I've been reading about people's experiences in courses to see if I can realistically choose the courses courses that would facilitate knocking out the requirements in a single term. I told myself that I would apply after I complete all the sophia and study.com courses RE: Diploma Size Change? - ss20ts - 06-11-2023 (06-11-2023, 05:40 PM)sixdegreesandamovie Wrote: thank you for the warm welcome and for your response I wouldn't pay for Study. With just Sophia, you should be able to come up with 90 transfer credits. You do need to complete some of your minor courses at UMPI in addition to the majority of the 24 UL credits. But manangement courses make a little nervous since I tried taking some graduate courses at a business school a few years ago and it didn't work out. My thinking behind study.com is that, according to the wiki, all requirements for the management minor can be transferred in using study.com and sophia. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but then it would mean that I would be able to graduate by fulfilling my 30 credits required for residency by taking electives? RE: Diploma Size Change? - bjcheung77 - 06-11-2023 Unfortunately... No, you can't, there are specific requirements for UMPI degrees with a major, concentration, or minor... At least 30 credits must be taken at UMPI At least 12 credits in the major/minor must be taken at UMPI At least 9 UL credits in the major/minor must be taken at UMPI Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Upper-level-electives-from-study-com RE: Diploma Size Change? - origamishuttle - 06-12-2023 (06-11-2023, 07:00 PM)sixdegreesandamovie Wrote: I already have a couple of undergraduate degrees (in the social sciences) so I know I'll be able to meet the gen ed requirements and be able to transfer in 90. If they're bachelor's degrees, then the gen eds are waived. Although, I'm curious why you're going for the ultimate check-the-box degree if you've already checked the box? You already have a couple of bachelor's degrees? It will be interesting if UMPI accepts you since you already have multiple bachelor's degrees. How many do you have? Many schools won't accept you for a 3rd or 4th bachelor's degree and will instead send you to grad school. You'll be waived for the GEC and electives. You still must complete a minimum of 30 credits at UMPI and like bjcheung stated the major/minor requirements. Those aren't waived when you have multiple bachelor's degrees. Since you already have multiple bachelor's degrees, don't take anything on Sophia or Study. You'll already be at the 90 transfer credit limit. If you spend the money and time on Study and/or Sophia courses, you could end up having a problem where you don't have enough courses to complete at UMPI to meet the degree requirements. I had that when I completed my second bachelor's degree at UMPI. I had to take an extra course outside of my degree to meet the 30 credits requirement. |
