Almost done. Thank you! - anthony3070 - 02-26-2023 Just want to say thank you to all the major contributors here. I could not have navigated this process without reading some of the stuff you all posted. It was key to getting this done efficiently. I was able to go through Sophia and SDC, transferring in a bunch of credits. This left me with 18 classes to complete at UMPI. I have one more class to finish: BUS 489. I have this next week to do it, so should not be a problem. I am starting on the project today. Two sessions is what is took me. I liked this process so much that my wife is trailing behind me. There were a couple reasons we both did not do this at the same time. I wanted to make sure it all worked and she had a foreign high school transcript. She grew up in Mexico and her transcript was not available online nor would they mail it. She took a trip down there and got the transcript (a hassle to say the least) and then it was sent to one of the services recommended by UMPI. She starts in a couple weeks from now. She transferred in a reasonable amount of credits and has 18 classes to complete at UMPI. So, two sessions is the plan for her. When this is over with, we will both have bachelors degrees. I haven't been keeping track of exact costs or time, but this process will have taken about seven months. I would estimate that I will spend a total of approx $7,000 for both degrees. That is almost unbelievable and is amazing. Thank you. RE: Almost done. Thank you! - ss20ts - 02-26-2023 Did UMPI require the high school transcript for her? Just wondering since she didn't go to school in the US. RE: Almost done. Thank you! - ashkir - 02-26-2023 I'm so glad you're starting on the project! You're doing absolutely amazing and will be an inspiration to anyone around you that needs a degree. You have achieved this, and you have done amazingly. RE: Almost done. I submitted it as-is and they rejected it two months ago. So, that was also part of delaying her start time. I had originally wanted to get her started in January. I mailed it to a firm in Boston that produced a letter stating it was the equivalent of a US high school diploma. That took a couple weeks and cost approx. $140. The firm in Boston sent it directly to UMPI and she was accepted. It was kind of a hassle to get the original diploma in the first place - it was from a somewhat obscure highschool level place in Mexico. I graduated 30 years ago and my high school diploma is somewhere in the school system's storage. I can't image asking for a copy of it. I can't imagine how difficult this is for international students. High schools around the world aren't the same as the US. Seems odd to be so adamant about that silly diploma.(02-26-2023, 03:12 PM)ss20ts Wrote: Did UMPI require the high school transcript for her? Just wondering since she didn't go to school in the US. Yes. She is 40 years old. When I applied, I was able to get my diploma because it was available online for a few bucks(I graduated in 2004). In anticipation of her applying, we had her go down to Mexico and get a diploma from her high school and the 2 years of college she did there. After seeing how simple the sophia/SDC thing was, we abandoned the idea of trying to get credit for her Mexican college. Her application was not accepted with the Mexican high school diploma. So we put the application on hold for 2 months (till the next session) and got it reviewed by an organization that issued a letter saying that she did in fact graduate high school. It was then accepted. She now starts in March as I finish. In a way, it worked out good because we now know what to expect from the Yourpace program. It should be no problem to finish in 2 sessions. The goal was to be wrapped up with this by the summer. So, I can't complain - a little bit of a hassle, but I'd say less than going through a four year university. RE: Almost done. Thank you! - bjcheung77 - 03-01-2023 "Life Happens", I wouldn't complain either, just keep pushing forward until the remaining courses are complete. I would look towards the finish line instead of dwelling on 'what could/should' have been... Your wife is getting closer to that goal, it's going to be 'realized' soon, that's the main draw, rewards are waiting at the end of that finish line and she'll be done faster than any other 'traditional' way. |
