90 credit limit - dual concentration - Kones - 02-02-2023

I’m not sure if I understand the 90 credit limit policy correctly. I’ve read that you can transfer more than 90 ACE credits because the limit is per degree… is that right? If so, what would be the secondary limit? And do multiple concentrations qualify or are they classified as one degree and therefore subject to a 90 ACE credit limit?
I’m hoping to complete the following:
- BSBA in both Accounting and CIS
- ASNSM in Computer Science
- certificate in Organizational Leadership
I’m estimating that I’ll need around 141 credits to get this all done. I have 30 RA credits planned, but am starting to wonder if that’s enough because it leaves 111 that I would need to transfer. Would that be allowed?

I graduated with 270 credits, the last 116 between Nov 2019 & January 2021, mostly ACE and NCCRS. You should be fine.

Associates have a limit of 45 credits, the bachelors degree have a limit of 90 credits.

For your BSBA in both accounting and CIS - the whole degree has a limit of 90 ACE credits. The thing I've noticed is as you transfer courses in, it might bump where the credit falls into, e.g., for my ASNSM in math I have enough math AOS Electives that "STA-399 - Special Topics in Statistics" bumped "STA-201 - Principles of Statistics" from AOS Electives to "Other Courses" so it no longer is applied to my ASNSM, with that being said - both were ACE credits and STA-201 was older.

Also, just because a course is used in one degree's section, doesn't mean it will be the same for others. For example, my ASNSM has Quantitative Literacy completed with 2 RA credits of Intermediate Algebra (MAT-115) from 2007, even though the recommended course is MAT-121 College Algebra (which in my case MAT-121 is in my math AOS electives). My BA in CS has Quantitative Literacy completed with my ACE credit College Algebra (MAT-121 from Sophia from 2020) and has my RA credit of Intermediate Algebra in "Other Courses."

You should be solid as long as your 30 RA credits planned stay out of "Other Courses" and remain are part of your degree but remember that adding a second concentration means your degree might require more credits to complete, so for example I need to complete about 151.34 credits since I have two areas of study instead of like 120 credits, the maximum of ACE credits is still 90. I'm still transferring ACE credits in, and it will most likely bump something out of my Electives grouping which right now are mostly ACE credits. Does this help clear things up for you?

How are you planning to obtain the other 30 or so credits you need for your second AOS? I may have to rethink my plan if it turns out I have to take more TECEPs or courses to make up the difference between the 90 ACE and the 30 RA.

Well in my case, I have a bunch of RA credits, so I probably would have been better off having two different plans (e.g. BA in CS & BA in Art) because in theory I could have made use of the whole "Additional AOS Electives" for UL for each one, but instead I asked for them to combine both plans as one and that's when I learned whatever was the additional area of study doesn't get the "Additional AOS Electives" only AOS Electives.

So, I have "Additional AOS Electives" which counts the Math UL "Special Topics in Statistics" as part of my minimum of upper level required. If I take another UL towards CS, then I could ask them to switch my degree around, making it a BA in Art and the CS would be the second area of study, which I would have completed with all UL in CS, so I could use a bunch of UL in Humanities and find an UL in painting and be solid but I'll probably just drop it because I'm so close to being done.

However, BSBA is a different beast because they only have 15 electives, where the BA has 30 electives. If you post your degree plan, someone might be able to help you better than me with seeing if you can pull it off. Worst case scenario is you focus on the concentration that will help you out in the long run and make the other one an additional certificate.

It's per degree - so for a BSBA and an ASNSM, that would be 135cr of ACE/NCCRS you could bring in. But if you can do 141cr (and I can see a way to do it in 135cr), then you should be just fine - you just need the 30cr of RA, and the remaining can come from ACE/NCCRS.

For the degrees, you need:
45cr of GE
42cr for BSBA Prof Core
18cr for CIS AoS
18cr for Acctg AoS

For the OL cert, Prin of Management is covered, Org Behavior can be used in the GE/SocSci area, and Leadership Comm can be used in the GE/Humanities area. That leaves 9cr of Free Electives.

For the ASNSM/CompSci, your 18cr of CompSci courses will be covered by the CIS AoS, and 6cr Math will be covered by Stats & CSM Learn from the Business Core. So that just leaves 3cr for Free Electives.

There may also be a course you can bring in from somewhere for Accounting systems, that would work in both CIS and Accounting.

Thanks so much! I didn’t realize some of the org classes could be used in the gen ed section and assumed they would cover my electives. Good to know!! Though I may end up with a couple dupes anyway because I need a few TECEPs to cover RA. Unless if I can find some back ups, most of them were coming from Humanities. But I’d rather have more than I need than not enough. Thinking I would need to make up 20 or so credits with a non-ACE source had me worried.
