What if money is not an issue? Online Business Degree - topdog98 - 01-26-2023
I have a cousin who has completed two years of a business degree. He now wants to finish the rest online. I know that UMPI is a great option. But if money is not a deciding factor, would you suggest another option instead?

If money is the 3rd priority option of the three we ask about here, which is their 1st and 2nd - Speed or Ease?
I'll add another two part question by asking what is there goal after the bachelor, and do they have a specific concentration in mind (if accounting is the goal, the answer would be different that it would be for management).

Good questions. 1) Speed and then 2) Ease. There is NO further goal for a master's degree and the concentration would be 1) management or 2) possibly project management (but definitely NOT accounting, finance, or marketing).

For speed, I'd still say UMPI because several people have completed the entire degree in less than a year. I also found UMPI to be easier than other colleges I've attended.

With that said - UMPI is likely still the best option.

I would encourage him to post his current credits here. Then we can compare what he has to what he would need at each school. It could make a difference. For example, if he had most/all of his area of study courses done, TESU might go a lot faster.

It really depends on what one finds easy. If writing papers is a challenge, UMPI might wind up being significantly slower than TESU. If a student has test anxiety and always over-studies for an exam, then UMPI would be the way to go.

I would say that it would be a choice between CBE (UMPI) vs. TESU/EU. If he wants CBE, then UMPI is the way to go; if he does not want CBE, then it's between TESU/EU. If he already has 24cr of RA, then I'd probably choose TESU over EU, just because you need fewer UL credits. But it also depends on which credits he's already done.
Also, if writing papers is a challenge, then UMPI might actually be an easier option than TESU/EU, which both require capstones; I don't know about EU, but TESU's Business Capstone was 25+ pages for the final paper, plus 3-4page papers for the case studies. So there is a LOT of writing (I personally loved the case studies, so this was not an issue for me). I'm going to guess that overall, UMPI may have less writing than TESU, or else maybe they're pretty close in the total overall pages you will write.

Competency Based Education. In this context, we're referring to courses where you are allowed to move as rapidly as you're capable instead of having to adhere to a fixed semeter or term schedule. Typically, they use a fairly small number of tests, papers or projects instead of a large amount of traditional homework.
Schools that specialize in CBE often are priced by the term rather than by the credit or by the course. This means that if you are unable to move rapidly, either because you need time to learn or you are trying to work and study at the same time, they can become quite costly. Conversely, people who have lots of prior knowledge or are willing to commit lots of time can accomplish in 1 year (or even less) what might take 4 years at a traditional school and save a lot of money,.
Many of the alt credit providers are also structured this way and will charge monthly subscription fees rather than per course fees.
