Plan eval and new user help - faptaincrunch - 12-05-2022

Hi All! SUPER new to college hacking (and College in general) and know what I know based on a few videos and peeking around this forum for a few days. Life has me thinking about school again and as an NJ resident I've chosen to take my IT degree at TESU. Can someone please go over my eval/sheet and please let me know if I'm making an awful choice somewhere and if it makes sense in general. Looks good to me but.. I dont know much.

Sheet is taken from Josh Madakor on YT and modified by me to substitute as many Study.com courses for Sophia/ALEKS/OnlineDegree.com alternatives. Link to google sheet is here HERE (if not allowed to post links let me know and I can attach as PDF). Thank you in advance

It's hard to give advice without knowing more about your situation: Why you want to get a degree, what your budget is, what's your life stage, how much time can you dedicate, do you have experience with school or in the real-world, etc.

If you're younger or aren't on a go-go-go fast, I need a degree, and you want to dip your feet into school you might want to consider a semester or two at a community college to get some of those harder RA classes (lab science, for one). NJ has a program that can cover up to 100% of tuition, depending on household income: https://www.nj.gov/highereducation/ccog.shtml.

I've taken a semester at CC over 10 years ago (32 now). I make enough so I'm unfortunately over the threshold of free education and have a full time job so can only devote 2-4 hours a day towards study.

Honestly, I'd consider WGU over TESU for an IT degree. And I say that as a TESU graduate. I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense if you don't already have a lot of credits. But others may have different advice.

RE: Plan eval and new user help - LevelUP - 12-05-2022

Josh Madakor has no idea how TESU works.

THIS DEGREE PLAN IS COMPLETELY WRONG!!!

General Education Errors
1. Courses such as Introduction to the Humanities III: Music are suggestions based on TESU courses that are offered, NOT courses you have to take.

2. Political Science 102: American Government SDC does not work. It shouldn't be listed.

3. I would do College Algebra and Stats at Sophia, not ALEKS.

Fix the errors by using this guide
https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sample_TESU_General_Education_Requirements_Roadmap

Information Technology Core Errors
1. Network System Design SDC comes in as CMP-254 LL and won't work.
2. Lots of options for credit are missing

CMP-202 Fundamentals of Information Technology SDC or Google IT support
CYB-120
ITS-130  Introduction to Relational Databases SPH or Google Data Analytics
ITS-150
ITS-160
ITS-261  CompTIA Linux+
CIS-301  Management of Information Systems SDC
ITS-340
CMP-354
ITS-363
MAN-435  Project Man SDC
CYB-450  CompTIA Cloud+  (tougher one to get)

Free Electives
Onlinedegree.com  is MUCH slower than Sophia.

You should be able to get the courses you need to take at TESU down to 10 or fewer. Then you would only need two flat-rate terms. (flat-rate $4,778 out-of-state and $3,686 in-state. You can get this degree in under one year if you study 20 hours a week.

Another option is doing a Computer Science degree at TESU, which would be cheaper and take less time to get.

WOW thank you so much!! One thing I'm still confused with..EDIT Just double checking that anything listed HERE as long as its matching the same letter (A,B,C,D) can be used to fill any of the corresponding letter credits listed at TESU HERE.

The TESU page doesn't explain each part in detail
https://www.tesu.edu/ast/programs/bs/it

For the Humanities, you need
1. 3cr Social Science.   (Psychology or Macro/Micro Econ)
2. 3cr History (whatever history you want)
3. 3cr Humanities (Sophia Art History I/II, Conflict Resolution, Workplace Communications, Visual Communications, or Ancient Greek Philosophers)
4. 6cr Mix of Social Science/History or Humanities

Check the attachment for a sample student evaluation to see what you will see as a student.

Everything starts to make more sense when you see the evaluation.

You are incredibly helpful, that attachment was perfect. When you get a change can you check out the eval in the first post again and see if its better. I have not changed the free electives section and the CMP-354 course yet. Everything else should be updated.

Your plan looks good now.

When you enroll at TESU, you can ask academic advising which courses will work for IT Electives.
