WGU Academy has more ACE courses - MNomadic - 10-21-2022 Not sure if WGUA is trying to slowly divest away from straighterline since most of their courses were just rebranded SL courses but it seems they are seeking their own ACE recommendations. I don't understand taking something from WGU-Academy for $150/mo per course. I don't understand taking something from WGU-Academy for $150/mo per course. I'm pretty sure it's not $150/mo per course. It's just $150/mo. and you can do multiple courses during that period. Unless something has changed recently. Depending on what you need, Sophia is still the best bet. But if WGUA continues to expand and can fill in some gaps that Sophia has, it'll make a lot of sense. I don't think it'll compete with the selection of more specific courses that SDC has, but I think SL needs to make some changes if it wants to stay in the game. Not sure if they still offer much of anything that can't be completed cheaper (or similarly priced) elsewhere now now. RE: WGU Academy has more ACE courses - lacussucceed - 10-22-2022 "Monthly flat-rate tuition Tuition is charged at a low, flat rate each month rather than as a per-course fee. This is incredibly efficient for you. The faster you finish each course, the lower your overall tuition at WGU Academy will be. At the same time, because your Academy courses will transfer to WGU, you're likely reducing the future tuition you would pay at WGU, too." https://academy.wgu.edu/how-it-works RE: WGU Academy has more ACE courses - ss20ts - 10-22-2022 (10-21-2022, 10:20 PM)dfrecore Wrote: Why would anyone take these here, when you could take them for less elsewhere? I don't understand taking something from WGU-Academy for $150/mo per course. Because many people have no idea about Sophia and Study and the other options. WGU sends people who apply without credits and low grades to WGU Academy. RE: WGU Academy has more ACE courses - FastTrackDegree - 10-22-2022 It's great with one more option, hopefully they come out with more relevant courses in the future. RE: WGU Academy has more ACE courses - dfrecore - 10-22-2022 Ah, yes, I forgot that it's $150/mo. The only issue is, I don't think you're at liberty to choose the courses you take. So, everyone who does it has to take PACA - their online synchronous course that you have to complete with a cohort of people via Zoom (or whatever), and you can't start any other courses except English Comp I if you don't already have credit for it. Then, depending on your program, you have a limited number of courses to choose from. So you can't just say "I want to take American Government because I need that for a different program." You have to sign up for one of the WGU degree categories, and then choose from a list of courses that will transfer into WGU for that program. With the cost of other programs (like Sophia) and the ease of being able to choose from a LOT of courses (Saylor, Study.com, Sophia, CLEP, DSST, Coopersmith, etc.), I just don't see why anyone would choose this course of action. The ONLY reason to do it this way was if you wanted to take the CompTIA Net+ or Project+ exams, which would be covered. But you'd really need to go fast through the course to finish in a month and get the voucher to take the exam. I'm not sure it's worth $150 and the hassle of the other courses you need to complete in order to get one of these exams for "free." RE: WGU Academy has more ACE courses - ashkir - 10-23-2022 WGU rejected my application and told me I need a certification or more classes in order to go to school with them. Then their advisor completely 100% ignored me until I pay to enroll at WGU Academy. At that time they had 3 courses they said I can take and "reapply". Went to TESU didn't work out, so did UMPI instead. |
